Hoss50 Report post Posted December 12, 2014 One of my hunt buddies and I both needed to burn a vacation day before the end of the year so we decided to go scout. We checked out a new spot in a unit we have been in before and had a good time. We took my almost 3 year old some with us again this year and we had a great time. You will never see game when you are out scouting with a 3 year old but we did see a good amount of quality sign. I would bet we only missed some by an hour or two, or maybe the voice of a 3 year old. The road to the area we wanted was rougher and narrower than google earth lets on so we parked the truck a lot earlier then we planned and started walking. We probably put in about 1.5 miles each way of boot leather and one the way in the kid probably put a little more than that running around. The way out was another story. My son only made about 1/4 mile of the return trip before wanting to be carried and ultimately passing out on my shoulder. Hopefully having to pack out my 35lb sleeping son is just a warm up for a good hunt. I will post a picture tomorrow.

Hoss50 Report post Posted December 12, 2014 He is actually only 2 still but turns 3 at the end of March so he is closer to 3. He is about 38" tall. I am 6'4" and 300 lbs so I think he might be a slightly larger then average as he keeps growing.

khmer6 Report post Posted December 12, 2014 great times. my 4 year old loves to scout and get high to glass. once he finds tracks, he starts ducking down and follows them making piggy noises. carrying that extra weight will definitely help condition you :-D My soon to be one year old is already 30 lbs, so I'm not sure if I'll be carrying him around once he's ready to hit the desert flats haha
Hoss50 Report post Posted December 13, 2014 My son was like that when he was 1. He was a chubby dude but once he started walking he just started getting taller not much heavier. He was prob 32 lbs last javo scout hunt when I packed him around in a carry backpack for most of the scout. This year he prob 35-38 lbs but is prob 8" or more taller. He loves being outdoors which is awesome. I emailed the pic to myself so I will upload it later.

rclouse79 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 I have felt like your son looked in that bottom pic while in the field, but unfortunately there was no one to carry me out. My wife works the 1st and 2nd of January so I have decided to take my four year old out glassing for javalina. I imagine my odds to get one will go way down, but it will probably be more memorable anyways.
