Jim White Head Question

Was going through all my Jim white plates and accessories and still don't know what this is? the half plate goes into it but where does this attach and what's it for?

That is the tripod head with the handle missing which Amanda had in stock. Of course you have to mount it to the tripod via the screw on the top, you may have to remove the outside threaded portion, there are two common sizes for the threads.

That hole right there in the front on your picture, it has that little cut across it.

I am at a loss... The bottom looks similar to the standard tripod head. May need the panning attachment.

 

Maybe Amanda will take a look and chime in.

It isn't just an adapter to convert a window mount to the jim white plate system is it? I use something similar on my manfrotto set up. Is the bottom threaded? If so, it should screw onto ballheads to give a detachable plate.

That is called a Jim White quick release. It allows you to standardize all your optics, it can be screwed onto any tripod head, window mount, shooting stick or walking stick so that you can use White plates on everything with out changing them to use different glassing platforms. They are primarily if you you have 2 different tripods or a window mount and you only use Jim White plates.
