Jim White Tripler-Review

Recommended Posts

The clamp is attached to the tripler's lens body with two small Allen head bolts. All that would be needed to align the adapter and bino would be a spacer of appropriate thickness between the clamp and the tripler body, and longer bolts.

Have you taken those bolts out to see how long they are? I wonder if they might have enough length already to fit a small spacer in it now? That's a great idea and sounds like what Jim W. was talking about doing for the Minox. JIM>

Awesome reveiw Doug.....very detailed and informative! It sure seems like there should be an easy fix to the alignment problem.....I know Jim W. said he was confident he could alter the Clamp feature to allow it's use on Minox....I'm sure he could do it for the Leica's as well......we'll know soon what he comes up with. I am also going to do a reveiw....I'm sure it won't be as detailed as Doug's but it will address some different points that will be helpful to those of you with different optics. I am gathering up several brands and styles of binos to show how it fits and performs on each and also I will put it up against the Swaro doubler for comparison. I will be headin' out to the Coues woods this weekend, and will have my review posted soon! Thanks, JIM>

Coosefan, Very interested to see how it works on the Swaro 15x56. Look forward to your review.

Hey evberybody, THANKS for all your review work on my trippler. coosfan is right on about the spacer between the coupler and the spring clamp. I may have time this weekend to machine just such a spacer.I had a pair of 15x58 Minox in my shop until just recently but I sold them. I have ordered another pair but it will be awhile before thay get here.. If any of you guys have a set of calipers and can give me an accurate measurment of the outside diameter of the eye cup on that glass it would help a bunch.

Thanks again

Jim White

Hey Jim....The Minox BD 15X58 ED.......eyecup is 45mm at the front and tapers to the back which is 50mm. The eyecup itself is 41mm long ...front to back. Thanks, JIM>

Jim: Thanks Bud, I will need to go to the old chart on the wall to do the conversion to decimal but that should give me what I need. I will try to work on the spacer tomorrow and let you know what I come up with. Do you still plan on trying the 3x on various glass ?

Yeah I do. It's hard to come up with a bunch of brands.....I've got Kahles, Minox, Leica, and a whole assortment of Swarovski......so it's a decent amount of variations I guess. I will be comparing it to the Swaro doubler as well. Thanks, JIM>

Mr. Jim:

I finally got some time on the mill and finished the spacer. If I did the measurements and calculations correctly it should bring the tripler dead center on the 15x58 Minox eyepiece. I have everything ready to mail to you, complete with longer machine screws and hex key wrenchs. Give me a call with your address and I will mail the spacer to you and tell you which screw goes where, etc.
