Bow vs. Rain?

Recommended Posts

So I will be headed out this weekend for opening archery deer and it looks like we are gonna get some rain. It's not gonna stop me from hunting in fact I think it makes for a much better hunt. So what do you need to do to keep your bow safe? Is it ok to get rained on all day then clean at camp that night? Avoid the bow getting wet at all cost? Etc

I've hunted in the rain quite a bit the last few years. Doesn't seem to be a big deal. Just need to dry it off when it stops raining, and give it a little oil in spots that could need it. I use used not-top-of-the-line bows as well though, so I'm not heart broken if I get a rust spot or have to fix a squeaking or creak from it getting wet.

It seems like there are a few parts that don't have proper coating on them to avoid rust, usually screws on sights, rests etc. I rub a little film of Vaseline on them to keep the moisture out.

Last December we it stuck in a hail rain snow storm and I left my bow under a tree and slept it off in my bivy. When the weather broke I went to go hunt but my bow was iced over. It thawed in the sun and eventually I could pull it back and it still shoots great. I did oil it up later and I always wax my string.
