Goose hunting?

Recommended Posts

I don't usually hunt waterfowl, but once in awhile i will jump shot ducks off cattle ponds, but was wondering if someone might be able to tell me where i might be able to find some geese. not looking for anyones hard earned hot spots, just some general areas/ rivers or lakes, that might be a good start to a waterfoul newbie. thanks in advance.

Colorado River @ Cibola National Wildlife Refuge is no big secret but gets a regular dose of geese every year, light and dark ones. If you really want to wack some snows go to Imperial Valley/Salton Sea area of California.

Good Luck!

They can show up on any of the rivers or reservoirs but there isn't much food to hold them.

Roosevelt lake gets a few but they get educated quickly, Colorado River is your best bet.

As long as you are hunting on the "Island" at the refuge or anywhere else east of the old river channel you will be in AZ and the usual stamps is all you need. They used to have an organized hunt where you draw blinds and such and hunt over alfalfa or bermuda grass fields out of pre dug pit blinds. Pretty sure that is still going on at Farm Unit 2.

Great Falls MT. Shot a few up there with my Aunt and uncle who shoot a pile of them all winter. Some of the funniest hunting of my life.
