Coach Report post Posted November 22, 2014 With Christmas coming up, my wife is looking for ideas. I'd like a really good jacket. Something wind-proof, waterproof/resistant, not too heavy as most of the hunts I do range from 20's in the mornings to 70's in the afternoon. I've been looking at KUIU, Sitka Gear and Kryptec. Any recommendations for the best mid-weight jacket out west? So far I'm partial to the 90% and Jetstream by Sitka.

Antmo23 Report post Posted November 22, 2014 Kuiu Guide Jacket. I was able to take the full brunt from the wind and stay comfortable while glassing. And Kuiu.com is having a pre-black Friday 25% off sale as we speak. Talk her into getting you some Attack pants as well.
ready2hunt Report post Posted November 22, 2014 If colder weather is your game then look into artic sheild. It is the lightest, Wind proof waterproof and warmest jacket I have ever worn and for that reason purchased it. I slept on a mountain top waiting for a buck to appear first light- with that jacket in November no thermals I had to unzip it because it got to warm. Not a jacket for warmer weather or long distance packing- agian it warms you up quick
shanehamblin Report post Posted November 22, 2014 Kuiu guide jacket. Cuts the wind very well an if you layer well its very warm. I love all my kuiu gear I just hate that most of it is on back order.
208muley Report post Posted November 22, 2014 That's an understatement!!!! I have been waiting for my attack pants for over two months. I ordered the 145 t and long sleeve with a beanie. Just got my shirts. Still no pants or beanie. Pretty good clothing but crappy service during hunting season!
WHT_MTNMAN Report post Posted November 22, 2014 Kuiu Guide...I like the solid colors soI can wear it everyday or under a camo vest..I shot my bull around 5 degrees...I had a hoodie under it and that was it...
Whitesheep Report post Posted November 22, 2014 If you're looking at this class of gear, check out Rivers West here: http://www.riverswest.com/ They have several different weights. I use the light, medium and heavy. The light is my favorite as I usually am on warm Javalina or early Elk hunts, but the medium is just right for about anything in the desert in the winter while the Heavy good for cold high elevation late Elk work. They are tough as nails (guaranteed to not rip on barb wire fence) and completely water proof. Not a well known name, but excellent gear.
bonecollector Report post Posted November 22, 2014 Kuiu guide jacket. I wore it in 14 deg temps of course with layers but jacket is awesome and wickes water away. Order this weekend and you can save 25%
azpredator@work Report post Posted November 22, 2014 I use the kuiu guide jacket. My Sitka and others sit in my closet. Wore it everyday this year in Wyoming from 10 degrees (had a cpl merino shirts underneath) to 60 degrees and was comfortable.
rcdinaz Report post Posted November 23, 2014 I just use my light jackets over an ultra-light down jacket. The Down rolls up the size of a softball and weighs nothing. Kuiu has one in waterproof down now, but I wear a mountain hardware one that weighs almost nothing.
yotebuster Report post Posted November 23, 2014 Went on kuiu site last night. Almost nothin in stock. If you add it to your cart and its back ordered you don't get it at sale price ended up finding some stuff I wanted anyhow though. Definitely no guide jackets or pants.
Coach Report post Posted November 23, 2014 Yeah I did the same - not a fan of them charging me full price because they don't have them in stock. I get the added benefit of waiting several weeks for the extra $$?? Bad business IMO.

Definitely no guide jackets or pants.Unfortunately for hunters and fortunately for Kuiu they have blown up in the last yr and they cant keep stock in to keep up with the demand. I dont think its bad business at all. You dont see any other camo gear company running these specials and they dont have the retail markup. They even lowered their prices about 6 months ago on their most popular gear.
