MULEPACKHUNTER

Many Firsts

Recommended Posts

First Rifle mule deer hunt, first time in this area, first hunt with my dad. Well Im back to work tomorrow and had to leave my son and dad in camp. We had a good time for 5 days and we hit it with military precision but in the end we did not see one Mule Deer. I can say that we accomplished some of my goals, we did not run into any hunters and we made it in and out in the dark each day. We eliminated alot of ground and overall it was ok but its like going fishing for 5 days with no bites, not much chance my dad is going deer hunting anytime soon, he had a good time but figured whats the point, he was born in Kentucky and he says this is not deer hunting, its sight seeing without deer in the sights. LOL

We spent 4 solid days preseason and 5 solid days hunting but no luck, the major upside that was in my heart was 3 generations together just us 3. I for one was fine with no deer. CONGRATS TO ALL THE SUCCESSFUL HUNTERS WHO MADE IT OUT THIS SEASON DEER IN THE SIGHTS OR NOT.

What area did you hunt? I have also been out for several days without harvesting but always enjoyed the solitude.

Looks like 22 but I think that was last week?? I've been hammering out 24b but the only antlers I've seen were on a spike that I missed. 30 degree incline 15 mph crosswind shouldn't have tried but I did, clean miss

I hope it is the first of many lasts, too.

For example, last hunt that ended in a dry spell. But hey, there s still Dec archery and you certainly found where the Coues honey holes are.

A hunter with your dedication is always rewarded with great memories and a sense of accomplishment.

PS Say hi to Juan Carlos II, for me. Lol

Muleys can be tough in 24b but those memories are still worth the trip. My brother and I have been on a couple hunting trips together, but I've never been able to get him a shot yet much less fill his tag. Hes a lifer in the corp and we dont get together that often, but every time he brings up those ill fated hunting trips and how fun they were. I know you just netted the same memories with your son and your dad. Congrats on that and keep after it. Its the chase thats most important anyway.

Ya I hear ya. You know my emotions went from anticipation to nervous to worry when we didn't see um then I got mad and figured there's no deer and g and f is just selling tags then, now that I am back I got mad and decided I am going to find those suckers and smoke one. Lol my dad texted me earlier and said he had a great time and wanted to do some research for next year. I think he was pissed too. I hate to fail and am pretty hard on myself but I usually work hard until I get it done after I get over it. I will find them dudes. Let's see what he comes up with. Lol we will probably drive right into them with his suggestions.

That is rough, but it sounds like it was not for a lack of effort. I always start to get depressed after day three with no action. Better luck next time.
