More D Report post Posted July 29, 2004 (edited) First let me me welcome all of our newest members! This is one great site full of great people. Now the problem! It is NOT my problem but I WISH IT WAS! My brother and I were talking a few months ago and I was giving him a hard time because he said that he wasn't sure he wanted to apply. He was expecting a new member of the family to arrive about one month before the deer hunt and was afraid that if he got drawn he might not be able to hunt with the new baby and all. I said that is easy just apply for the Kaibab mulie hunt. You won't get drawn, you have no points, but that way you will get a point for next year. HE GOT DRAWN FOR THE 1016 hunt Nov 19-28 12A WEST! In the first non-law-suit-BS-draw. No joke! No points, we hunted 36C WT last year. We have never even been to that unit, we don't even know ANYONE who has hunted there in the last 10-12 years. He applied so that he wouldn't get drawn.....then, now thing have changed to say the least! I told him not to worry. Go downtown and buy some maps and I would ask for some help from you guys. Scouting will be difficult if not impossable. We are guessing 8hrs form here in Tucson drive, but not sure. Thanks Boys! Arizona Griz Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Well that is a little bit of a problem. I have never been up there so I am no help. Like always, check the G&F unit hunt report and above all try to find out the Game Warden of the area. You might also want to post on Monster Mulie's if you haven't already. Good luck. stanley Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Send a PM to Coueshunter (Allen). I think he helped guide up in the area last year. May have been th east side.... I'm not quite sure... Also, maybe check-out some of the popular muley sites. You might find a friend with some advice there... One comes to mind, but I won't mention it's name on here. PM me if you can't figure it out. Good luck! S.

azcouesandelk Report post Posted July 29, 2004 I had an antlerless tag there 2 years ago and hunted the west side. If it weren't for the antlereless tag I would have been able to drop a beautiful 5 by 6 on that hunt. If I were you I would go down the 212 past the 282 and there are alot of aspen groves with stock tanks in that area. If you would rathere want to glass a little bit you will see a big meadow off to your left off the 212. That is were Igot my deer, and saw that big brute. There is a stock tank up there, lots of food, and they have all the shelter they will need withing about 100 yards so I would recomend that area. Good Luck. coueshunter Report post Posted July 29, 2004 MoreD: This is a once in a lifetime type tag. I know you guys could go up blind and kill a buck but you really really should scout or hook up with a guide because there are Monsters there if you hunt/scout it right. We killed a 211 typical last year on the east side and the west side we shot a 208".....if you cant scout your buddy should see if he can scrape up $4,000.00 and have Arizona Big Game Hunts find him a monster. Duwane Adams is the outfitter and he has one opening for the west side if your interested......holler at me or Duwane.......my number is 602-454-2146........Duwane is at 520-385-4995..................Really not selling you a guided hunt, I just know how great a tag your buddy has and would like to see him kill a 190 plus buck........Allen..... 111 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 What a great tag to have. My dad's brother has the same tag and he had only one bonus point this year for deer. I've never personally had a 12A west rifle tag but have been on plenty of archery and rifle hunting trips over the years. It will be fun to see how the November hunt really is exspecially after a 84% kill last season. I'll be up there helping and we just need to pray for SNOW. The deer used to hang out in the lower country even on the general October hunt but since the drought not nearly as many deer hang out down there. I figure the best scouting will be done right when the general season ends because the deer will be moving off the plateau at that time. Each day the deer densities in the cedars will begin to fill up before the November hunt. The reason It's not a 100% kill is because hunters are after one of those monsters that take to long to find or hunters spend to much time up in the pines at that time of year where few are to be found. If it does snow though which is hard to come by lately, look for tracks in the higher country crossing roads because sometimes the bigger bucks will be last to bail off the mountain and thats a great chance to trail down a big one. My email is coues14@aol.com if you want some great spots we've hunted in the past.
