Hunter shoots at dead deer on cart, hits other man

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to share this with you guys. Another reason why we need to be careful and aware of our surrounding. Let's all be safe out there!
EAST FISHKILL, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a man who had shot a deer in the Hudson Valley woods was hauling it away on a cart when he was wounded by second hunter firing at the dead animal.

Police in Dutchess County tell the Poughkeepsie Journal (http://pojonews.co/1uFkheC ) that a hunter had shot a deer Saturday morning and was using a cart to bring it out of a wooded area 60 miles north of New York City.

Officers say another hunter saw the deer moving, thought it was alive and fired, hitting the first hunter in the hand and buttocks.

The injured hunter was treated at a hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police say both men are from nearby towns.

The incident is being investigated by the state Department of Environmental Conservation police.

These stories always get me. How in the heck can you not tell a deer is tied up on a cart let alone even know exactly what the heck ur shootin at? This guy should never ever be allowed to hunt again or even allowed to own a firearm or sharp stick for that matter.

I always wonder the same thing. Don't you look and get a really good idea about your target before shooting? It boggles my mind that some people will just see movement and fire, not knowing what they're even shooting at.

If you are wondering how this could happen, spend a couple of days on a public rifle range.

Yeah...no doubt. There are always a bunch of dumba$$ es at the range.

These incidents are extremely rare, yet they paint us all as a bunch of morons who are just out shooting at anything that moves.

And what in the world is the Environmental Conservation Police?

I wear hunter orange even though it isn't required by law. I am especially careful to wrap up a deer if carting it out.

IMHO it should be a law that if you have a scope on your rifle, you need to carry binoculars in the field. Would definitely cut down on the amount of times one dumb@$$, lazy, cheap hunter scopes another. Just my $0.02.
