36A Javelina Companion Tag Reminder

Recommended Posts

I was at the Game and Fish office at Ben Avery to purchase a companion tag for the 36A junior hunt next week. The lady said that I was the first one that she has seen purchase the companion javelina tag so far for their junior. Just a reminder to add more to this hunt for your young hunter. Be safe.

I must not be up to date. What is a companion tag? Another method of G&F getting money?

Kids who draw junior deer tags can purchase "companion" javelina tags in some units without having to through a draw process. It's about hunter recruitment, as the money side of it is pretty minimal.

We did it for a junior hunt once, and it saved the weekend for us. The deer didn't work out, but there were pigs everywhere. It gave the junior hunter an opportunity for some action, and a harvest, that wouldn't have occurred otherwise.

At $15 that tag is probably a loss for them after the cost of the processors time and the paper the thing is printed on.

Amazing that somehow we found a way to B&M about the department giving kids an extra chance out in the field.

The companion tag is an awesome gesture by game and fish to help kids have a successful hunt.

That is awesome. I was not aware of this companion tag. Good deal in helping get the future generation of hunters a little more opportunity at a game animal.

That's a great thing that the AZ game and fish offers I know that at that age they sure do enjoy the hunts more if they are at least seeing game and getting opportunities to harvest animals. On my daughters first hunt we had had put in a lot of time and miles before she was able to take her first deer she only remembers the day we actually were able to wrap the tag around the antlers.

 I'll publicly take back my comment now that I know exactly what this tag is about. Sounds like a really good deal and no brainer to buy this tag. In my experiences you always see deer when hunting Javis and see Javis when hunting deer.

I had glassed for a total of 10 minutes on my deer hunt last week when I glassed up a javi. Happens every time. I'll go back in 6 weeks with a pig tag and won't find any for the whole month of January.
