You know what, it sure seems like alot more residents are getting drawn this year. I really think G&F was just blowing smoke about apps actually being up this year. I think the truth is they were down... way down.Look how many guys drew Elk and lope tags. How often do you see that???? I think G&F is just trying to save face and say that apps were up when the truth is they were way down... especially on the non-res side of the coin. I'm calling B.S.!!

only 10% of non-residents git a tag. that means 90% of residents git one this happen every year. JS

 

I know how it works partner, all I'm saying is that last year there weren't as many of us getting drawn for elk around here as there are this year not to mention lopes, I've never seen so many guys from 1 or 2 forums getting drawn for Lopes. You might not have been here last year though. I'm telling ya, G&F is trying to save major face here, they in no way want the state to know that applications were down 40% and they lost all that liceance and app fee revenue because they kicked prices up too high all at once. I was over on MM and there were many many non-residents that bowed out this year. Many more than the ones who stayed in. Thats only one forum imagine the thousands who backed out that don't bother with forums. I'm telling you... there is no way that apps were up this year!

even I drew a unit 9 or 10 Rifle elk tag with only 3 bonus points. I have also seen lots of residence get hits for elk and lopes on 3 other forums. Maybe we will get lucky and the apps will be down for the december coues deer hunts

Amex users!

 

Last year I drew an elk tag but the charge to my Amex card appered between 2-3 days after the draw results were posted on the AZGFD web site. I remember this because I was really bummed out to here all the others whos cards were hit and I still had not seen any activity when I would check the CC web site.

 

I could be off but that is the way I remember it.

 

I applied this year on the 25th of Jan and they took the app fees the same day. Actual charges might go up but maybe Amex don't do Pending stuff.

Found out today none of my bonus pionts transfered to my Dept. provided sportsmans I.D. # from my Soc. . I called G&F and they said they will correct the problem after the draw. Bless their hearts! The guy I spoke to when I got the # said the points would tranfer with no problem! I must have put in for the same hunts that he did!

As much fun as I was having deciding on what to do with an extra set of tags. They went and refunded my card with the second set. So looks like I will only have one elk and one antelope tag instead of 2 each. The folks at the bank got a liitle irate with me after I asked them for the 4th or 5th time to make sure just the one set got refunded and not both. LOL... So there should be another archery bull tag and another archery goat tag on the list to get picked up.

I have to agree with you about the g&f not telling the true story about the total amount of apps. I would be willing to bet, that they where down by close to 40% because of the price increase. Just to many people drawing this year( and I wish the best for all the people that drew this year) just seems to good to be true

Conspiracy theories may abound, but I have it from a pretty good source that there was definitely NOT 40% fewer apps this year. Seriously, do you really think that 40% of the elk krazy folks out there would let a few $$ get in their way of a potential elk tag? Try it this way; Anyone who DIDN'T put in for elk due to the increase, please stand-up and make yourself known! I'll bet I get quite a lot of silence in response to that statement.

 

No.... there were just as many applicants as in previous years.

Sorry, I spend alot of time talking to alot of non-residents and I can promise you that alot of the ones I know backed out this year. I for one would not put it past G&F to fluff the numbers. They also have a good Mule deer management plan in place too right??

You can request a printed copy of the entire drawing database from the G&F.

 

If they were going to "fluff" the numbers, seems like they would fluff them downward as a way to justifiy another price increase.

 

If they inflate the number of actual apps, how do they account for the missing $7.50 app fee per false applicant?

Here's the actual numbers, it's hard to argue about the truth...

 

New elk and antelope draw garners record applications

 

Arizona's first-ever separate draw for elk and antelope last month garnered a record number of applicants.

 

"We worked long and hard to spread the word about the new draw for elk and antelope," said Leonard Ordway, the Arizona Game and Fish Department's game branch chief. "We were pleased to see a record number of people applied for antelope permits and the elk application number was almost the same as last year."

 

The application numbers were:

 

Species...2007.......2006

 

Elk........102,325..102,653 =328 less elk apps in 07'

Antelope..36,813...31,435 =5,378 more ant apps in 07'

Total......139,138..134,088 =5,050 more apps in 07'

 

Ordway said this new early drawing was actually created at the request of hunters themselves. The new draw allows them to find out whether or not they are drawn for elk and antelope prior to applying for deer, turkey and other species.

 

"This is better customer service all the way around. We're glad to see it is working out so well and judging by the application numbers, it looks like most everyone got the word. With the large number of hunters, that is quite an accomplishment in itself," Ordway says.

Anybody have any information on when the results will be posted? Any calls lately, or do know somebody that works with the department? I know somebody out there knows a friend who has a best friend who's uncle's grandma knows a guy that will have this info!
