cohofishing Report post Posted October 28, 2014 Just got back from my Burro Mountain mule deer hunt. I was able to pull off a trifecta. I can say that I feel lucky to have harvested one of these deer but to get three bucks in one year, I am truly blessed. I have been on four different Burro Mountain hunts. Each time it seems to be getting harder. With my Colorado on my plate, I wasn't able to scout New Mexico like I had hoped to. Instead I choose to rely on what I had learned on Court's youth hunt years ago. Maybe not the best idea. Getting to the Burro's two days early was the best I could do. I spent most of the day light hours behind my 15's in three different spots. I found a few does and two smallish bucks. Not the start I was hoping for. I was hoping to have better news to tell Eric (brndg) when he showed up on the first day to help me on my hunt. We spent three days behind our 15's. We moved from area to area looking for a better concentration of deer but we never found them. We were only able to find one small two point in velvet and a few small groups of does. Some Coues does and of all things, a herd of elk (I didn't know they had those in the burro's). Our last day to hunt found us on the same hill that Court shot her buck from, hoping to relive the magic. Eric was glassing east towards the sun and me to the west. I finally heard those words we love to hear "got a buck, good buck". With a good plan and some hand signals, I was able to have this great 4x3 feed to me and at 34 yards, I was able to take my second muzzleloader buck of the year. Thanks Eric. It probably wouldn't have turned out the same if you hadn't have been there. My August Colorado Muzzleloader buck My January Arizona Archery buck
