olmos1010 Report post Posted October 23, 2014 Ol man was out quail hunting and came across this track and asked me was it a bobcat or coyote track. I was leaning towards coyote because of the nails but the pad and toes do look like a bobcat. What do you all think?

JLW Report post Posted October 23, 2014 Ol man was out quail hunting and came across this track and asked me was it a bobcat or coyote track. I was leaning towards coyote because of the nails but the pad and toes do look like a bobcat. What do you all think? cats have retractable claws so there won't be any nails as stated.... see in the other pic how stumpy the track is similar width but shorter length. forgot to add when coyotes are on the move their tracks will almost be in a straight line instead of side by side... WampusCat Report post Posted October 25, 2014 A cat will have the tell tale "W" in the back of the main pad. That picture looks like a domestic dog. Maybe another bird hunter was there?
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted October 25, 2014 Looks like coyote to me......I think the mud has sort of smeared out the toes and pads so that it looks more oval like a bobcat track than normal. but yeah, nails are a give away.

Norteno Report post Posted October 26, 2014 After reading this post I was able to make out tracks while out Friday. Here they are in order 1) Coyote 2) Bobcat 3) Big furry fresh bobcat right? The last one was way bigger than my hand. I should have put up a reference. The scat around the area was really fresh too. I was watching my back after that.
