is it just me or is every hunting show left on tv about as phoney as a rubber dog turd? i don't like zumbo. never did. feel like all he ever did was rely on his guides. but his show was the last one that was even worth the time to watch. i still feel he crossed the line and did something completely inexcusable that there ain't no comin' back from. i don't think he can be trusted at all. he had everyone's confidence and flushed it. but his show was still fairly entertaining. i ain't no tv freak. but ever once in awhile i like to sit down and watch somebody shoot somethin'. i tried last night and about barfed. i'd rather watch american idol and i'd stick fishhooks in my eyes to keep from that. dang, this phony re-enactment crap. guys crawling along toward the camera, like the camera guy ain't gonna spook em. re-enacted shots, where the animal is in predawn light, but the shooting action is after the sun is up. and the favorite line "that wuz aaooowwwwsome". or "lets back out and come back for him in the morning" at 3 in the afternoon and then they talk about how he only went 100 yards. just phoney, poor sportsman, no talent, no experience, stupid BS by a buncha guys that oughta be on a cartoon somewhere. and the stupid blastin' skinhead heavy metal guitar music they always play. ugh. i'm gettin' pukey thinkin' about it. it's a sad deal when the best show left is colorado buck. he's a sorta wierdo, but his show either has gotten better or the other ones are so bad that it's makin' his look good. that and ever once in awhile i see somebody on his show that i know. but dang, all these high fenced, grainfed, buckgrubbed, sucker lickin', shootin' outta heated stands, camera in front re-enacted, canned, 5 minutes of hunting and 25 minutes of commercial, tv shows just flat stink. am i alone here? what's your opinion? besides, we need somethin' to jaw about. Lark.

At least you guys have shows to watch.

The cable service in Payson doesn't offer crap for the outdoorsman. :(

Thats OK I just walk out the door listen to the elk bugle, chase of the pigs,

jump on the quad and go check the tanks :D

Sorry to rub it in Flat Landers ;)

I got stuff like that to do...........jump on the quad and chase the mojados around, check the tanks for fresh garbage and backpacks, look for stolen trucks in the desert (that ones my favorite) it's awesome!

for real though, about the best hunt'n show I have seen would have to be Eastman's Journal and Reel Outdoors

It ain't just the hunting shows that seem like a waste to me, regular network programming is also. I'm tempted to cancel the satellite and save the $. Think I watch about 90 minutes a week, and best I can say it's just wasted time.

RR

Update, I just fell into temptation. The corn flickers will go off and be televised without my observation.

Lark, for onc, your old crusty redneck but made a good point!(besides .270 being one of the top 2 calibers of all time, right next to the 270wsm)

"lets back out and come back for him in the morning" at 3 in the afternoon and then they talk about how he only went 100 yards" I HATE THIS!!!! it seemes every shot on TV that the animal doesnt drop on spot they do this! and they always say "it was a perfect shot, he only went 30 yards" when you can tell it was a less than perfect shot! this bugs the crap outa me!

only seen a hand full of Tred Bartas shows... he is talented, but one of them put a bitter taste in my mouth.. he was spot and stalking muley does, he took some looong shots (50+) and wounded and did not recover a doe or two before he killed one. but, hes also not perfect, just like any other archer!

and Brian you are correct, i think Eastmans is one of the best!

Lark,

That is the finest peice of criticism I have ever read. All undeniablly true. Personally I think the hunting shows are a bore much like porno. Why do I want to watch someone else have too much fun? I have seen two Barta shows and he is way too intense for me. I do have to give Barta credit. One of the shows I did see was the before mentioned doe hunt. He at least showed his misses and the non recovery of the animal. Who else on any hunting show would show that? You know it happens all the time. At least he was honest, unlike all the other fake stuff that Lark talked about.

"Flat Landers"??? Seems to me you resembled that remark not soooo long ago... ....

Anyhow..... get the the Dish like Troy said....after all it is the 21st century! ;)

 On the serious side.... I watched part of a Tred Barta show today and they were talkin' about how the Anti's are buying up hunting consessions all over Canada and closing them to hunting.... for good. That is BS..... groups like the Nature Conservency.... They are so frickin' wrong!!! Who do they think pays for wildlife conservation.... WE DO!!!!!!

Wow....I'd hate to see how you REALLY feel! :P I agree with about 99% of this....I too hate it when they do the re-enactments, especially the totally obvious ones! I take it personal.....as though they are personally trying to pull the wool over my eyes.......do they really think most of us are that stupid? I don't believe there should be any acting in these hunting shows or DVD's.....I want to see the real deal, as it happened, and see and hear the actual emotions and footage of the hunt. I also hate the shows that take place on private property or high fenced ranches and they keep it a secret....leading people on makin' them think they have done somethin' special. "Stalking" up to a camera, and faking the shot is my biggest complaint with these "Hollywood" shows, again, they are tricking you into thinking the hunt is actually still taking place. On the other hand, I do like the guys who honestly try to get the real shot or different camera angles of the stalk on tape, you can tell if it's real or not, and the guys that are truthfull about what they do are awesome. It takes ALOT more skill to get the REAL stuff on tape. I think lately, one of the best videos out on the market is Paul Kendalls "never enough" videos. There is a few re-enacted shots I think, but his videos aren't all about him and he doesn't put on a show for the veiwers, he try's to bring the veiwer along with him on the hunt. Chappell's "extreme bulls" and "Coues' videos are awesome as well....down to earth and hunts that most normal guys can relate to and especially because alot of it is filmed here in AZ! One thing I don't like about the Eastmans' shows is they always claim their hunts are "public land" and that anybody can hunt where they hunted....that's BS. I've seen a few Muley kills they videotaped, and follwed it up with the usuall " public land, anyone can do this" speache.....when I later found out they were on that dang ranch they always hunt. Sure anyone can do it....if you pay the $6,500.00! Oh yeah, and I can't stand that old traditional style music Eastman keeps using to this day....it was fine on the old stuff, but it drives me nuts listening to it now on their new stuff. I do like the more modern music, maybe not "skinhead heavy metal guitar" stuff, but more modern music is good. Oh well, I'll stop. JIM>
