Blaze Orange

Recommended Posts

I had a flight of about 15 dove come between me and another hunter about 200 yards away and not only did he swing on them he peppered me my dog and my truck and I gave him a peice of my mind I was more pissed that he hit my dog than me or my truck and not only that I had my limit and was cleaning my birds so I had been there for about 20 min and I watched him pull up and get out of his truck and was only about 50 yards from his truck when it all went down just happy he only had number 8 shot or it might have stung a bit more

Some people are color blind like the deer. I have a buddy who lives in MI where you have to wear at least a orange hat. He went in the store and couldn't tell which ones were orange. He had to ask the clerk which one was orange. He says that camo stands out better than orange to him.

Tan Carhart's, white or faded shirts/jackets/anything, some people wear colors that mimic game, and in heavy hunting pressure/un-known hunters, some orange/red could be needed...

I dont own any orange gear, I prefer the stealth method, if I'm never seen, I'm harder to hit...

Always hunts in carhartt crew, I totally look like an elk. Has to be a bad idea

When I was younger and hunting in a premium unit I had left my truck and headed straight up the mountain and across a scree field to a remote basin that always holds good bucks. I was about 250 yards from the dirt road, and hear a women shout BIG BUCK as turn to look in her direction she has her rifle pointed right at me, and her husband/boyfriend is yelling at the top of his lungs NO! This country is wide open sage and I have no where to go as the sage is very short in this very spot. I dont see any deer and drop to the ground firing my rifle into the hillside, I could hear her husband screaming at her and ripped that rifle right out of her hands. There was no deer anywhere to seen. I wear orange when rifle hunting and so do my children. As far as being seen do you really think your hiding from a guy behind a quality pair of binoculars? Or deer seeing you, take a look at Colorado's buck harvest every year. Or stop by a local taxidermist shop in Colorado.

It would be interesting to see at least twenty years of data comparing mistaken-for-game shootings per 1,000 hunters in states with and without blaze orange laws. I'll stick my neck out and predict that little difference would be found. A couple of generations of hunters have grown up buying blaze orange products, just because of a manufacturer's sales campaign..... Bill Quimby
