nighthawk Report post Posted October 20, 2014 A little foreshadowing ...It started Thursday night my bride to be and I were heading up to 27 to spend the weekend trying to fill her cow elk tag..(no elk killed) .. Camp set up and laying down for the night at 245. At 330 the coyotes behind camp were going crazy and keeping us up. I told her the next morning that we would get them back for that lol. Fast foward to Saturday no elk in morning back at camp for lunch. After eating I told her lets go get one of those coyotes behind camp to send a message to the rest lol . At this time it is 1200 and we walk about 1/4 mile behind camp and get set up to call above a old two track and creek. After about 6min I see a shower 150yrds out then a bobcat appears. So I tell her to stay still there is a bobcat coming in. I'm watching where he is going and see a pocket that I'm assuming he is going to go threw. I set up for the shot that is now about 50 yards and let one rip. I put the cross hairs right behind the front shoulder and a little high aiming high shoulder. Dropped the cat in his tracks but he still proceeds to kick and move. I put another one in him on the ground that hit right in the heart and 30 seconds later cat was expired.. The 17hmr really did the job and I am impressed with the hornady 17grn vmax did a great job !!! This is my third cat and they still get my heart pounding. They are an amazing animal and feel very greatfull I have been blessed to have taken the ones that I have.. I think this is the biggest cat I have taken he was an old tom with messed/ missing teeth !
nighthawk Report post Posted October 20, 2014 Also this and all my predators are called in by hand call. I enjoy the challenge of hand calling and feel the reward is much bigger to call one in with your mouth. Don't get me wrong I think/ know that electronic calling would take my success rate up but I like doing a little more then just pushing a button:))
