AZ8 Report post Posted October 20, 2014 My brother and I finally had our schedules match up to give us a chance to head out for our first trip. Arrived to our spot at 7:30am. The morning greeted us with scattered clouds and a cool breeze. Unaware how dramatically the weather would change in the afternoon, we set out. Jumped our first covey less than 1/2 mile from the truck. I had 2 birds, my brother with 1, just 15 minutes from our last cup of coffee at the truck! We worked that covey for about an hour before losing track. The rest of the morning consisted of flushing singles and doubles from the covey we busted. Back to the truck for lunch. We pondered what our plan would be. While making plans we were observing a building thunderstorm to our east. We headed out, but kept turning our heads to see what that storm was doing. About 2 miles from the truck the first bolt of lightning dropped down several miles from us. Then another. Then another. I don't mind rain, but I don't mess with lightning. Especially when holding a 12 guage shotgun. I had no plans to test my lightning conductive potential. So we head back to the truck just in time. Had a pretty good rain shower with thunder rumbling around us. Was very peaceful. After the storm passes, we head out for one final loop. Overall was a great day in the desert. We ended up with 11 birds. It was good to finally get out! Storm heads in. Heading home.
