SWINGBOW Report post Posted October 13, 2014 Mounting it to a Slik 734 carbon fiber tripod. The Manfrotto 502 looks nice but a little heavy at almost 2 pounds. Thinking about the Manfrotto 700. Way lighter and less expensive. I always have a hard time buying something like this online. I know the Outdoorsman is nice just can't justify all that $$$$. lancetkenyon Report post Posted October 13, 2014 I have the Manfrotto 700 head. It is a bit lighter than the other Manfrotto panning heads. I like that is uses the same mounting plate as my Manfrotto pistol grip head, and I can just leave the plates and adapters on different optics for quick swap outs. I have plates on my 10s (x2), 15s, spotting scope, camera. Just swap from one to the other on two different tripods.
Swivelhead Report post Posted October 14, 2014 Although I don't own one, very few people are willing to give up their Outdoorsmans pan heads. When they do come available on these forums (rare) they go for 80% of retail and are GONE quickly. Less expensive but beefy (heavy) heads are ok for around the truck but I find my pack getting fairly heavy with gear I consider essential. For a lightweight setup: Buy once, cry once. kazpilot25 Report post Posted October 14, 2014 I have the 700 as well and I really like it. Not too heavy, but very smooth.
SWINGBOW Report post Posted October 14, 2014 Thanks boys. Just ordered the 700. If for some reason I don't like it, I'll suck it up and go with the Outdoorsmans.
