Factory ammo repeatability question

Recommended Posts

I have a .270WSM Winchester model 70. I have been shooting Federal Premium 140 grain accubonds. I can't seem to get good, repeatable groups. This was true when I had a Tikka, shooting the same ammo. I'd say this ammo is upper end for factory stuff. Would I group better with top grade ammo, such as Nozzler or Hornady? I know reloading is the better than you can buy, just don't have time for it right now. Thanks for any advice!

I was getting inconsistent results with Nosler Trophy grade Accubonds out of my .270...seems much better with Barnes TTSX. It's not cheap while you're trying different ones (helps if you can find some partial boxes on CWT), just gotta find what your rifle likes.

One thing with factory ammo is that there is noting that states that they have to use the same components lot after lot, basically they have to load their ammo that will go bang in at least 4 different kinds of guns. The best way to get things in your favor is to buy more than one box of ammo at a time and make sure the lot numbers on the box match up. Also nothing makes a handloader scratch his/her head than to have a load work and the next time using the same components not shoot worth a darn, it happens but not as often as factory ammo.

I would try 130s. I load 130 gr swift scirocco and barnes ttsx for several rifles and all shoot under moa.
