Good Luck to the New York Hunters

Recommended Posts

1Oct2014 Opening Day in the southern zone...

Good Luck to you all during the Bow season, I know it is tough to make the choice between deer hunting or heading north to fish for 40lbs Salmon and big trout, but the season is long so get out there and do good work...

I will be missing my first NY deer season this year, the first missed season in...ever... (Wounded Warrior and other Hunts are eating into travel time)

oneshot,

I've got my plane tickets for the 3rd week of the New York season . NY reduced the non Res. license to $100 this year , a drop of $40 and it includes the small game license as well. I think they included the bear tag as well which used to be another $50.

Not sure the motivation to add another couple of weeks to the bow season .

Bob, Thanks for the cooking props. You are always welcome in our camp.

oneshot, yes , I am in 3K , Sullivan County, we do not have the farms and corn crops that Orange County does.

I hunt 1500 acres that I own with some other guys. Our deer herd is declining over the years . I still love the woods and getting that buck is only a part of it.

As a kid growing up on an apple orchard in Ridgebury, it was a treat to see a deer . At that time if we went to the cabin in Sullivan County and rode around the block , you couldn't count them all. Now it has reversed . Go figure.

My grandfather spoke about the 1930's in Sullivan where you were fortunate to see 'a' deer.

This is why they named it 'hunting' and not 'killing'

My next out of state hunt I'm pretty sure I want to be in upstate NY with my other cousins.

Any of you have ideas on how to help with ticks? I can handle most things here that I've come across, but the thought of ticks on me does not thrill me whatsoever. Makes me itch every time I think of them actually and we know what happened to Amanda's husband. I've been told we must check for ticks every night where I'm going.

I've also been told that eastern whitetails taste a whole lot better than what we grow here..lol Anyone else agree with this?

PS - public land for me this trip

DEET works well for ticks and just keeping covered. Hard winters will knock them back a bit but NY is a lot wetter climate than here in AZ so it lends to the proliferation of ticks.

Just go do your thing and don't worry about it.

I have a standing offer for any CWT.com member to bow hunt my property(3M) in NY, Orange Co. between the towns of Montgomery and Pine Bush...

800+acs full of Deer, Turkey, Bears, ducks, small game galore...

"Small" areas of public land through-out the State, along with the 1million acs Adirondaks... Big Deer in the 'daks, but you will be lucky to even see a deer in those huge woods..

NYAZHunter... I think you said you are up in Sullivan Co.??? There has always been lower numbers of deer there then in Orange Co. (Sullivan and Orange Co's are right next to each other, Sullivan Co. has less farms/open woods/fields/people then Orange Co.)...

DEC even opened an early rifle bear season before the expanded bow deer season in 3M. Bow season now runs over 6weeks before the long rifle season, 3M gets 2doe tags(free)... There are high numbers of deer, so DEC is trying to give more tags and a longer season...

I bet more deer are killed by vehicles on the road that goes along our property(maybe 1/12mile) each year, then an Arizona hunter could kill in a life-time...

Thats a very generous offer. I've got a hunt planned in Nebraska & am working on one for CA next year, but would love to take you up on it in 2016.

Cabella's bug skinz or rynyskin work very well keeping creepy crawlers off you. I just spent 10 days up north on my elk hunt and got 1 chigger (no see um). My hunting partner got eaten up with probably 20 of the little $&**#s all over his body. I guarantee he will have some on our next hunt.
