I would be willing to bet that if Ghost was harvested he would be remembered as a legend far more that just the run of the mill 180 ram from 22. And far as learning how to field judge sheep most folks couldn't tell the difference in a 180+ unit 22 vs 165 40b ram. So all the hype on learning how to field judge sheep is ridiculous. I am sure when the Ghost gets harvested he will make a fine trophy for someone and I am sure he will be remembered as the awesome ram he is. As to the "hype" on field judging being ridiculous that is an opinion you are entitled to. I believe there are many ways to learn to field judge sheep including being on many hunts as you suggest but I think having some guidelines prior to going on those hunts sure help me and many others. Analyzing photos/video and comparing to other rams that have been harvested is a very effective tool for me. I do sense a bit of sarcasm in your double post and that is ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect yours. HuntHarder I think you need to watch him from afar and not disrupt his pattern. I think he could put on his sombrero and head south for the Winter when he feels pressured. He could also just be chasing the feed or the he might like to tan in the beaches of Sonora...If you really want him, keep your eyes on him for the last 30 days prior to the hunt and you will more than likely get him. I swear to the good lord that if he disappears without a tag on his horns I will spend a lifetime looking for his bones. I don't even think Ol' Flair will be the same without the big boy to keep him going. Jay, I would really like to share more pics with you for your best opinion of the old man's score. azdeserthunter Report post Posted October 8, 2014 Speedgoat I've been on 30+ successful sheep hunts. Old Ghost is a ram that score don't matter. Only his character & uniqueness matters with him. I'd personally put him around 174-176. These days with the newer generation its all about numbers and not about the rams themselves. Today I know more died in the wool sheep hunters remember a legend ram from 44aw that was pursued by a governor hunter that was killed a year later only to score 178. This ram is still remembered more than the last few auction rams killed in the last few years that scored 180 or better. I know of several sheep hunters who have lots of $$$$ would spend lots of $$$$ to have an opportunity to hunt that ram next year if he lives. Im just an old school sheep hunting veteran who puts character & age over score. I've laid my hands on 6 180+ rams whole lot of 170+ rams and a bunch of 150-160 rams which are great memories as well. I got to come face to face with him while scouting by myself and that was enough for me. I would rather have a ram like him roam my favorite mountain range for as long as I live if only in my dreams. I was stoked last year to help a man that hunted hard carry a smaller ram off of a very tough hill. When I was asked how he scored my reply was "Awesome". The best part of my hunt was the time spent learning about these magnificent animals. I value the time I get to spend on water projects and I do stop and take the time to do repairs on water holes when out by myself. I have the ram of my dreams in my living room, I have the memory of my hunt in my head, I have the friends that helped me in my life, and I have my guides money in my bank account. My prerequisite for sheep hunting was to find the ram that I loved and I did. Not because of his score, but because he has red horns and I knew from a mile away that he was the challenge that I needed in my life. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
