I've learned that you better be in shape. It does no good to hike to the top and be so miserable and sore, that you break down mentaly and shoot a spike. You have to have all yer wits about you if you are going to make split second decisions that determine wether you come home with 111'' of bone or 11'' of bone. It's taken me a few years to figure this out. But, at least my roasts have all been VERY tender! :P >>Jason

I learned....or actually I just remembered......there is NO reason to get excited for the draw results to be out.....the odds are SOOO astronomically against me I should just expect NOT to get drawn and plan for an archery deer hunt instead......at least while that is still an option! ;) JIM>

I learned a few years back that the online App. process stinks.

This is why I mail mine Early.

I can watch my bank account and if my checks don't clear within a couple weeks I can follow up with GF to see if there is a problem with plenty of time to take care of any issues.

Yes this means we have to put the money up front but if you would just put $10.00 a week into an envelope in your sock draw you would have the cash.

No more anxiety attacts like the ones a lot of you are feeling right now.

I know I said this before but I really think we should do away with online.

It would also help with a chance to draw a tag as it would help get rid of some of the competition.

I won't us the term I did before, but a lot of fence hunters may not apply as often and the bunny huggers and out of staters would have to come up with the money up front. I am not apposed to out of state hunters and if they want to put in they can, in the same process we do, Cash up front.

This is just my feelings and thanks for letting me vent again. Something to think about.

Mike

I learned that Mexico has some big bucks. :) and the 36 units have more illegals than I care for.

I also learned that sometimes a lion will let you shoot TWICE at them and you should go home if you miss both times.

I learned that I get the fever more with lions than with a Coues buck. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I learned that once you have a plan in mind (if you can help it) you need to stick with it or you will be thinking about it for the next 12 months.

I learned that I am the only person in my family crazy enough to hike 5 to 10 miles a day with a 20lb pack leaving before the sun comes up and returning after dark and loving every minute of it.

I learned that no matter what I say to try to convince everyone that the big one is in the canyon they cant see clearly with their 10x50's, no one will tag along (this one I dont understand)

I learned that big toes hurt for months if your shoes are a tad bit too small.

I learned that no matter what kind of freeze dried food you buy, if you forget your propane burner, it all tastes like garbage.

I learned that my pointing finger doesnt aim right for others no matter how much I raise my voice and say "ITS RIGHT THERE!"

I learned that putting too much pressure on my young cousin will make him shoot ten feet to the left at 275 yds and putting no pressure on his older brother gets the same result.

I learned that I only see mountain lions when I dont have a tag.

I learned that no matter what I say, if I am hunting with a bow, I will find a loop hole in my thinking (i.e. never shot a whitetail with a bow, haven't been seeing much, last day of hunt even though it's Jan., been walking/glassing for hours, he's so close...etc...) that justifies the reason I just shot at that dink of a forkie (luckily I missed). What can I say, I'm weak. :(

 OMG!!! I am soooo glad to hear that I am not the only one that get "the fever".... I get it bad on all Predators!!! I have missed 2 wolves (one @ 600 yds) in Alaska and missed my lion twice and got her with the third shot at 225yds. She never moved for all three shots!!! Major target panic!!!

I learned that I have to aim way low, cuz I get so excited on them big predators!

 I can't help it.... That is one of the things that I am working on is my rifle shooting...... Bow hunting is my thing.... I am very calm with a bow and generally an idiot with a gun.... My New Years resolution is to become as proficient with a gun as I am with a bow. :)

i am pretty profecient with my 270wsm... shot a .6 yesterday with it and a .6 5 shot with my kimber 22-250... it still takes me 1000 shots to kill anything i shoot at!

i have killed one mountain lion, and one deer with one shot! thats it! kiled a pig with a rifle, shot it twice but i didnt need to.

then again, my lion wasnt 225 yards... it was 22.5 feet!
