azshtr Report post Posted September 22, 2014 If all else fails and the two can't stop arguing, then there is a wonderful option that Amanda put into CWT that allows you to block users. I personally have used this on one occasion because I found myself getting too flustered with someone else's antics. You know who you are I come here for hunting knowledge - not the other stuff, but even saying that it's hard sometimes to sit quiet and not respond, but in the end I usually feel better NOT getting into a typing match with someone I don't even know. Finding the owner of the bull is what is important at this point - however that happens is good in my book. Not every lost bull is because people don't practice or don't take good shots. Sometimes it happens no matter how prepared you are just like it did to me. I think it already exists. I thought I used it here once. But I agree... guys please step away from the keyboard with snippy comments. Take a breath and understand you may not agree with everyone... in that case move on. PLEASE. Shedhunteraz Report post Posted September 22, 2014 I think i may have to go get my head checked on this response, actually on my way now. I agree with BC777 on trying to help out a fellow hunter. Kudos. I would proceed with extreme caution on this. If you all recall, we found a downed bull in 23 last year and tried like heck to find the owner. After a few days we found them but the whole story seem sketchy. Long story. Any way point of my response was a G&F officer sitting outside of the area where the bull was shot for hours, somehow they new from our posts and responses the general area. They are always watching. Its a very tough call on reporting because of the many different opinions of G&F. My advice is if you know the Officer in that area, try to find the owner but let the officer know as well. You don't have to give the location. In the end depending on the officer he may let you take it after the season closes anyway. Just my two cents

Guest 300ultramag. Report post Posted September 22, 2014 i think the absolute overtone here is that we as hunters should be helping each other out and we are. There is a time to call LEO and I think bc777 used his discretion here and made a good call by trying to help out as stated. it also wouldnt hurt to let arrgh I cant prononce the officers last name for 4b but to let him no about a downed bull. Im sure he knows.. ie a flock of crows and buzzards. But just as a moral issue to at least let him know. I think before you do anything you should look in the mirror and ask yourself.... What would Lark do? and then do the opposite and then ask yourself what would TJ do!!
mattys281 Report post Posted September 22, 2014 I think what BC777 is trying to do is a good thing but here is a side of it that no one has brought up yet and that is insurance bulls. This happens every year and more than most would like to admit too. An insurance bull is where someone shoots a decent bull, leaves in in hopes of killing a bigger one then coming back later in the hunt to claim it as if they looked for it the entire time. As the good sportsmen you all are I know its a hard thing to swallow that extra bulls get killed for no reason but I promise you it happens. the only way I can see it from being prevented is someone taking that bull out of the field (has to be gf by law) which will prevent a person from coming back and picking it up. I'm not a fan of gf selling all these antlers that someone can prove they shot and looked for but the best thing I can come up with is if someone shoots a bull, cant find it within the day they should call gf in case someone else does find it before they do. In my mind if I wounded a bull, told the local game "worden" where and when and that bull turns up, I have every right to it. Now if gf decides to keep it i'll fight em for it but it seems like a better option than possibly allowing insurance bulls to lay out there. That may not be the most selfish, morally reprehensible thing I've ever hear, but it's getting right up there. Just as a public service announcement to everyone, if you happen to be engaging in this kind of crap and I were the one that caught you, G&F would be the least of your concerns. Figuring out how to remove the size 11 boot from your rectum would be the first, followed by wondering what I was doing with that 20 ft length of rope while you were dealing with said boot. The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.

gotcoues Report post Posted September 22, 2014 So many opinions along with so many lame posts. First of all, some one is "out2lunch" and probably should have just left his resentment to BC off this thread. General consensus is most agree with that. As far as rules and regs, I have a general understanding of how I think this situation applies. Your tag is essentially for the animal and the meat, so if the meat is spoiled by the time you find, technically you could call G&F and keep hunting and I would assume they take the rack. How I understand it is, you have until the end of the day to tag your animal on the final day of the hunt even after a 48hr period from the time you "hit" the animal (I've never heard of the "48hr rule" before this thread). You cannot under any circumstance tag an animal on the following day after the hunt ends, meaning you can't back out on the final night for a bad hit and attempt to recover in the morning. Also, it is only illegal to intentionally waste the meat, that does not apply if the meat is bad by the time you recover the animal as nothing was wasted intentionally. You can keep the rack even if all meat was lost. I've also never heard you must notify Game and Fish if you find a deceased animal. I'm curious to see if these statements are accurate, because I find a lot of prior statements to wrong or misleading. I say good job for an attempt to find the owner and keep in mind some people won't keep hunting after they have lost an animal. I'm sure that guy or person like this would be tickled to death to find and tag the bull even without the meat. As far as "Insurance Bull", well that is down right depressing and should result in a forever lose of hunting privilege if proven to be guilty of that. That is repulsive and more than shameful.
