Sorry but there's no way you can mistake a sparrow for a dove. I'd say the bird was attacking. Cry self defense. It was flying right at his head!

It's sorta like when the judge asked the axe murderer why he killed everybody in the house. "well, they wuz home".. It was there. He's a kid with a shotgun. Things happen. I killed enough of em with my red rider that that worden woulda charged me with a felony. He shoulda said he packed it out because he respected it. That seems to be the ticket with some folks. Lark.

Make the kid write 1,000 times " I will always know the legal hunting/shooting regulations before I ever squeeze the trigger."

Tell him to pick up trash in the AZG&F parking lot and tell him to be safe out there, pat him on the back and send him on his way. I guess I am just an old softy.

I sho hope I dident misspale anyting.

I guess I could have the kid write a 1,000 times "I will follow the rules just like the game and fish officers do" ..... I'm sure his parents will take care of it.

15 or 16

its a kid, sometimes I worry if a novice hunter can tell the difference between a whitetail and a mule deer. I have never worried about my kid shooting a shitbird instead of a dove or a quail. If they shoot the shitbird oh well. They need to know the difference, and if that is by mistake, oh well. They are youth hunters, and need to learn. Sometimes that leads to mistakes. If the gfd officer can not understand the difference between a child and an adult, he is a real dumb azz. You cant be perfect , but you gotta try.
