The Zeiss's are about half the weight of the Minox. I've ordered a pair of 12x45 Conquests & they should be here Thurs. Which means that I'll be able to give you a first hand opinion on Friday.

Ya, but I was told that they are so light because the housing is, more or less, "plastic".... .... I have never held any of the Conquest Binos.... but a buddy of mine used to sell optics and his words to me were....."The most expensive plastic binos ever made."..... might not be the case.....don't shoot me if it is less than perfect info....

With the 45mm objective on the 15x45, I would be concernd about the 3mm exit pupil and brightness at dawn and dusk. I'd opt for the Minox 15x58, $699 Minox vs $629 Conquest thru Doug

I used a pair this year and love them. Can you say "20 oz".Of coarse I went from 16 x 70 fujinons that weigh 6 pounds and I like to hike up the tallest hill around, so you could understand my delight. Optically they are very very good. Comparable to any german glass. I was worried about narrow field of view, which turned out to be a non issue that I didn't even notice. Light gathering is a noticeable difference between my fujinonon's, but there is a noticeable difference between the fuji's and 15x swarvos. Fuji's are brighter than any high high end, high power glass. My buddy probably had 5 extra minutes glassing time with his 10 X 50 swarvos (very bright glass) when compared with my zeiss. So you may miss a buck at twilight. Toughness is probably an issue. They don't feel as solid as a pair of swarvos, but since the classic none of the zeiss feel as tough as the swarvo slc's. I do have a confession. ( I know no one else has done something this stupid.) This october I was walking between glassing knobs when I thought I heard hooves. I set the tripod down a little off balanced to take a look with a rifle at the noise. You know what happened. A gust of wind blew the tripod over into a cluster of rocks down hill. I was sick, yet no damage occured to the binoculars optically or physically. Honestly, I don't think you can do this too often with this binocular, I feel real lucky there was no damage. I feel the biggest drawback in this binocular is that there is no tripod adapter made specifically for this binocular. How much money does Zeiss and Leica lose to Swarvo for not having a decent tripod adapter on their high powered binocs? How much does Swarvo make on their overpriced adapter? The Leica platform deal with the rubber straps will work on this model, but I didnt like the ergonomics, so I made my own out of wood. The tripod adapter is the biggest issue with this binoc. Sorry this is so long winded, but I think if your going to sink alot of money into something you need an honest appraisal of the pro's and con's. The bottom line is I am very happy with the 15X 45 Zeiss and would buy them again.

Thanks to all! Bobbyo I appreciate the info, just what I was looking for. Some real world feedback.

As for the minox, I really don't care too much for them. Big and bulky, also I noticed a dark haze in the center. Like in the movies when they are simulating what a pair of bino's is like. I had some time behind some swaro 15x56 this year. Man those things rock! :D I just cannot stomach the price tag  So I have began some comparison shopping and it seems the conquest 15x45 is the next looky-loo on my list. I am also concerned about the low light performance. The twilight rating is a 26 as opposed to the swaro's having a 29, whatever that means??????????? Anyway...........any other info good or bad is much appreciated!

THANKS

I have used both and I now own the Minox. From what I was able to tell the Minox are better glass. I had my choice narrowed down to the same 2 choices before talking to Doug at Cameraland. He also said the Minox are better. They are heavier but I think it is worth the extra weight. Just my .02

I know that you want input on the zeiss conquest 15X45s, but like some of the others here I would also recommend the Minox 15X58s. They are a bit big and on the heavy side, but to me I like the fact that they are built like a tank. The dark haze that you said you seen when looking though them might have been caused by not having both the twist eye cups all the way out. Myself and others that have looked through these have had the same problems with the eye cups. I have looked through swaro 15s and love em, but like everyone else I cannot stomache the pricetag. I think that the the Minox 15s are the best bet for the price. Everyone that I have talked to about the Minox 15s also agree that they are the real deal for the price. Like many others here, I also got my Minox from Doug at Cameraland, hes a great guy and gave a me a heck of a deal.

I hate to sound like a broken record..... But if you like the Swaro 15's.... save for them and buy them..... They are the Best! And it isn't like you are going to replace what ever you buy......I mean it is a long term purchase..... When I bought my first Swaros I saved and did side jobs to buy them...... best money I have ever spent. Good glasses will make you a better hunter because you will see more and good glasses will make you more patient. When I go glassing with guys that don't have Swaros, I have noticed that I start glassing way before they do in the mornings...... I have even had guys ask me, "What are you doing? It's way to dark to see, yet."..... and I am glassing away..... :D

FYI....... If I was shopping for my first pair of good optics the only hard choice would be whether to buy the Swaro 10x50's or the 15x56's. My reason is this....... the 10x50's are the best all around glasses.... you can freehand them, more compact, better field of veiw, and brighter & sharper than any other glasses I've ever looked through. The bright, crisp clarrity of the 10x50's really offsetts what you lose in power to the 15x56's...... IMO. I love my 15x56's because of the extra power and I always have my 8x30 or 10x42 binos around my neck for free hand and close in lookin', anyhow. But, if I only wanted to carry one pair of glass all the time...... it would be the 10x50's.... Just my $.02..... :)

As far as the haze you noticed, were the Minox you looked through new or used? If used, possibly the person who owned them didn't clean them right? I have seen grown men, who seemed intelligent, take a pair of Swaro's and wipe the glass with their shirt sleeve!

I just smile when I see that.

I too had to get used to the eyecups on the Minox. For me, they work best about 2 clicks out. If you don't twist them out, your eyelashes rub against the glass and streak them up. Maybe that was the black haze? Seriously.

You'll come to like the extra weight on the bigger glasses when it's windy.
