Is a rabbit snare legal on private or public land?

Since my Yorkie died last year, the rabbit population is exploding at my house. I watched someone on TV catching them with a little wire snare and I would like to try it.

 

Does anyone know the legality of using a rabbit snare on private land? What about public land?

 

If it's legal, has anyone tried it successfully?

I'm sure that only live catch traps can be used on public land. Snares and jaw/leg hold traps are only allowed on private land.

Slingshot. Pellet gun. Archery. Fast hunting dogs....like my GSPs. All will do the trick just fine on private property. Just watch your backstop with the first 3.
