Maverick351 Report post Posted September 2, 2014 Was up there all weekend, saw many vehicles with cw stickers. Just a friendly reminder. Baiting deer is illegal. I witnessed a person with a cw sticker on his truck exit his Chevy truck bow in hand carrying a plastic jug of bait. As soon as he spotted me he tucked the container under his arm to hide it. This was on Pioneer pass side going down from the top. Please guys we as hunters should be better than this. It's not legal.

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted September 2, 2014 It is illegal.... from page 106 of the hunt regs, which is followed up with more detail on page 125 R12-4-303 4 Using edible or ingestible substances, other than water or salt based products produced for the livestock industry, to aid in the taking of big game is unlawful. Edge Report post Posted September 2, 2014 How do you know that wasn't salt in the container? Maybe it was gluten-free granola for lunch and he didn't like you staring at it. One man's bait is another man's meal. If I take a couple corn cobs with me on a hunt, have I committed a crime? How many of you take an apple or two with you? Alert, deer love apples! If I'm packing, got enough sweet feed for the animals, corn, alfalfa pellets..... The crime is baiting, not taking afield what you say is bait. Are we going to have our packs and panniers searched next? If you see him actually breaking the law, please call the warden.

Maverick351 Report post Posted September 2, 2014 maybe you are right, but how many of you reuse the bottles of c'mere deer and deer cocaine to store your granola in while bow hunting? No I'm not hall monitor. however I don't think its right for somebody to get away with illegal activity while the rest of us have to hunt by the rules

Edge Report post Posted September 2, 2014 Now he was awkwardly hiding two containers with deer baiting labels? You didn't say that! Sounds suspicious! Why didn't you just shoot him? (sarcasm)
100%DIYazCOUES Report post Posted September 2, 2014 Personally, I appreciate you saying something maverick. I think its the right thing to do in holding other hunters accountable for their actions. I don't have tolerance for non ethical hunters either, they make us all look bad,and they are flat out bad for the sport. So thanks
AZLance Report post Posted September 2, 2014 I am assuming that you reported this to game and fish and gave them a description of vehicle, license plate number, and description of the hunter... if not your just as guilty as the guy who was allegedly baiting...

That's what I was referring too. If it is was something other than salt why not report it to game and fish?

Edge Report post Posted September 2, 2014 AZ Lance makes a good point, if it bugs ya, report the circumstances, let them wardens catch him in a crime if one is being committed. I'm going fishing and using chum as bait. vs I'm going fishing and baiting with chum. One is a no-no here. Kinda like having a greenhorn at a dude ranch. Riding drag. vs Riding in drag. Two very different things. One of these activities above means you'll eat a lot of dust, the other activity will get you shot and bite the dust.
