mattys281 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 My sales rep from PSE just told me about this thing last night. Apparently it just hit the market. The numbers are 33" ax-to-ax, 4.1 lbs., 6" brace height, & ibo speeds up to 350 fps. According to him, it's super quiet too. I'm going to try & shoot one this weekend & I'll let you all know what I think.

azhuntnut Report post Posted February 14, 2007 I have been looking at this bow also. I figured if I get drawn this year, it would give me a good reason for another PSE. My current PSE has shot three animals including a huge elk. I wonder how many mathews have shot record animals. <_<Here are a few videos to check out. David http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2n59CA0tlA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8MlzJDcOv8 DISCLAIMER-I also like to stir the pot. I have never owned a mathews, but they look like a great bow. Its the person behind the bow that makes it count.

GameHauler Report post Posted February 14, 2007 I really want a new bow but haven't been able to come up with close to a grand for a complete set up. I WILL buy another PSE my old PSE I bought used About a dozen years ago PSE has replaced the limbs once the cams twice and the cable once AT NO CHARGE you can not beat that kind of customer service. That old bow has take 3 bulls, 2 cows and several pigs I have 1 pin on it that I use for 0 to 30 yards, don't care to shot any further. My hat off to Pete and the crew. Mike By the way that hat was given to me right off of Petes head several years ago at Earnhardt RV while he was buying a trailer Thanks again Pete

I have shot a lot of bows over the years and the Mathews just fits "me" best..... I hear the same thing from other guys about other bows. My feeling......... " If you don't have to try hard to shoot it...... and it makes you a better shot the very FIRST time you shoot it.... then it is the Bow for you." My Mathews has harvested, for the Book, 3 coues (1 top 10, & 2 top 100 and a Desert Sheep (was top 10....now top 15-20). That is why I am a believer! And your right!!!!! It is "the Nut behind the String"!!!!! Good luck with the new bow.
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted February 14, 2007 THE TRUTH shall set you free, my friends. I thought PSE was short for Parts Shooting Everywhere? That is the "Truth"???? The "Truth" is....... that looks like a split limbed Mathews knock off!!!
DesertBull Report post Posted February 14, 2007 that looks like a split limbed Mathews knock off!!! At one half the price! BTW, Bear owns the patent on single cam bows.
mattys281 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 Price listed on their website is $799.99. At 350, it'll smoke any other factory claim I've seen. Of course, the key word there is "claim". As far as I'm concerned, 290, 305, 320, 1000, whatever, it's all too fast for a trigger punching hack like me. I'm a 260ish with fixed blade broadheads kind of guy. I've already shot the Matthews Drenalin & Switchback XT, so I'm curious to shoot this thing & see how it compares.

Speed doesn't mean it's better for YOU. It is cool, but you have to be able to handle it, otherwise, it doesn't matter how fast it's going when you can't hit the target consistently! I have only shot Matthews for the last 8 yrs or so, a whole bunch of critters from bear to antelope and have never shot faster than 270fps! Matthews just shoot smoother, and more accurately for ME, doesn't mean it's the best for everyone though. My $0.02.......JIM>
Red Rabbit Report post Posted February 14, 2007 That high speed of the X may be due to the shorter 6" brace height. One consideration for shootability. Notice that Primos shifted from PSE to Bear Archery. Pray tell? RR

Coues'N' Sheep, Weren't you the guy looking for tips on new units to hunt. Aren't we getting a little greedy? Save some deer for the rest of us. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...?showtopic=5118 Matty's 281, I am interested in how this bow shoots. That is really fast. Forgivability factors would be my concern with such a short bow with a really short brace height. One thing that I think should be number one in choosing a bow is all the factors that go in to shooting a bow before you release the arrow. How does it pull back. Is it smooth or are there dips and valleys? Does it feel stable under load? Does it have a solid wall? All these things combined with the noise and vibration post shot are important in making a pleasent shooting experience. Having a bow that is fun and easy to shoot is more important then fast numbers. It has been my experience that there is a trade off between "Fun Pleasent shooter" and an "extremely fast shooter". mattys281 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 My next one is going to be the Diablo. It's 33" ax-to-ax, but has over 8" of brace height. I'm shooting the Mach 12 right now. It shoots really well, but has a short brace height (6.5") and I notice it in my arrow flight if I punch the trigger a little. Need something more forgiving and I'm stepping up in draw weight. Want a little more punch for my elk hunt this year. I've shot a few Matthews and would never knock their performance. Their fast, quiet, and can drive tacks at whatever range you like. The only thing that keeps me away from them has been their weight, but teh Drenalin fixed that problem this year. It's incredibly lite and faster than a raped cheetah. Unfortunately, the price tag is still too heavy, especially since I'm not a dealer for them. That's really the primary reason I opened my own shop, I can buy top of the line bows at wholesale. Gotta love that.

Bob Well put Bob. I think Brace height is very important in choosing any bow..... it really doesn't matter if you never shoot over 30 or 40 yds..... but down range shooting, which is very common in Western bow hunting, you will play heck pulling tight groups w/o a 7"+ brace height. I personally also will not shoot a hunting bow over 285 fps (preferably 275-280 fps)...... too much speed, also makes it harder to group down range. Speed is great in target bows..... but not so good for hunting....my $.02 worth. And Bob....... I am not greedy.... I am however always up for new challenges.
