maximus Report post Posted August 27, 2014 I have data for a load that somebody gave me, now is with sierra gameking 180grain, imr 7828 scc but it calls for 77.5 grain of powder and 3.360 coal, now the manual calls for a mximum load of 76.8 grain and 3.340 coal. do you think is a safe load being a little longer on the coal or i should stick to the manual? i reload my 308 and i have a fantastic load but first time on the 300 win mag. please let now your opinions. thank you. oz31p Report post Posted August 27, 2014 it will be fine. i run my 300wm loads at 3.40. if your rifle is a bolt action make sure it fits in the mag and the action cycles the round ok.
pwrguy Report post Posted August 28, 2014 No 2 chambers are the same, even on the same brand and model rifle. ALWAYS start at the minimum load and work your way up. Yes...in most cases you can exceed book maximums but be very careful to check for excessive pressure on the way up. The same can be said with COAL. No 2 rifles have the same freebore, you can run into trouble if you start to engage the rifling with a hot load that is up near or past max.
