Hey KBH,

And every one else

Last night I was talking to one of my daughters about past hunts and it really drove home a point a very close friend and hunting partner has been saying for years.

WRITE IT DOWN

Tom kept telling the girls to write down every thing about the hunt as soon as you get home because you WILL forget.

they didn't, I didn't,

We forgot alot.

Its a hard habit to get into but well worth it.

KBH write down you javi hunt, I think you will be surprised how hard you will have to think about some of the details allready.

I think it's a great idea to write down details of a hunt shortly after the hunt. I have done a diary off and on over the years. It's hard to take the time to do it, but I think it's well worth it.

I did at one time keep a log of every deer i glassed up, what time it was, what side of the hill they were on, the weather, what they were doing, how many of them there were and how far away i was. i have since stopped doing that, i just find a nice bid ole fork and go kill 'em!

I really like to make journals of each hunt. I started about 7 years ago and write down the hunt, collect samples of grass/flowers etc and do a few sketches. I keep them in leather binders and have a memento of each hunt to go back and look at. Great stuff...............Allen...........

I'll cut the handle off my toothbrush, buy lithium batteries, ditch my spotting scope and everything else to lighten my pack, but still throw in a bulky leather bound journal for a backpacking trip. That's the only time I do write in it though, while on the trail or just before. Never seem to find time afterwards, and I don't really know why. Seems like real life hits you with a vengeance the minute you get home.

Thats my point exactly.

Somehow we have to take the time.

I just recalled a archery javi I had to finish with a Texas heart shot

because of something I saw on TV.

Forgot all about that pig

I've been keeping a log of all my trips in the outdoors since the early 70s.

Hunting, fishing, camping, whatever. some very detailed some not so much. Some sketches too. I also have pics. of almost every camp I've ever been in since the 60s.

It's pretty fun to go back & read them from time to time. Hope my Great grandkids like them.

I think I'm on Vol. # 7

I started keeping a log book back in 2005 right before my archery elk hunt. Just this past weekend while hunting lion on the rez I took some time to write in it about the hunt I was currently on. I happened to look back to my 2005 hunt and found where I wrote that I had gotten a photo of a bull that would probably score between 350-360, and where I had found him. I also wrote how I met a new friend that morning (el fuego) while scouting and hoped to hunt with him another day. I ended up shooting that same bull within a couple miles of where we saw him, and he scored in the 370's. I now always write down people or ranchers I meet and where they see animals throughout the year. I also like to put down the areas I scouted and where I saw animals. David
