kazpilot25 Report post Posted August 25, 2014 I went out for my first archery hunt this weekend in unit 7. I had a blast and saw more deer in 3 days than in my entire life combined. It seemed like every herd we spotted had a buck with them. We literally didn't go any one hour span of time that we didn't see deer. It was awesome. I had a couple opportunities at some small forkies, but the situation was not ideal and I couldn't get it done. I learned a lot about archery hunting and what I need to work on for next season, the first being practicing holding a draw for long periods of time. Anyways, just thought I'd share. We also some some monster bull elk in 7E, which I usually find them in 7W so that was pretty cool.

Mountainman99 Report post Posted August 25, 2014 We love hunting that area because we see a ton of deer. Where we hunt there is usually one bachelor herd opening morning with a decent buck in it, but not this year so I spent my time helping my cousin shoot his first deer with a bow. He was able to get it done on this buck!

Mountainman99 Report post Posted August 26, 2014 Ya it was a bit crazy even the places where you hike into had a lot of guys. I think we'll try some different areas next time. It's a great place for a beginner though.
gbocardo Report post Posted August 26, 2014 I have a cabin up in Unit 9 borders close to Unit 7. Can't wait to finish the remodel so I can spend more time glassing. Always see deer on the way up. Keep at it.
HEADACHE Report post Posted August 27, 2014 I tell you what, I've been hunting around there for many years and have never seen the amount of hunters in there as I have this year. Almost discouraging.
GJMauro12 Report post Posted August 27, 2014 I tell you what, I've been hunting around there for many years and have never seen the amount of hunters in there as I have this year. Almost discouraging. Blame it on the hunger games! Every yahoo has a bow now!
jim Report post Posted August 27, 2014 I don't know about the hunger games but every hunting show on tv is now almost archery. Over the counter and you get to hunt as rifle tags decrease and the technology of bows being what they are nowdays, just makes archey a better choice,
