Aunt Jemima Report post Posted February 11, 2007 If I don't get the deer tag I want here in NM, I'm planning on applying for javies in AZ for Jan. '08. I was looking at the AZ website and would like to put in for the unit 24A area. My questions are, are there good numbers of "pigs" in this unit? On a map it looks like it would be far enough North of I-10 to avoid the illegal traffic. Is this true? Of course if anybody want to give me some areas to check out, I'd appreciate that as well. Thanks. For the record, you guys in AZ have a great Game and Fish website. I'd be nice if NM put that much time and effort into thier site.
AZP&Y Report post Posted February 11, 2007 Aunt Jemima, I sent you a PM of some areas you may want to concentrate on and check out. You do not need need to worry about Illegals in 24b. It is not considered a travel cooridor and they have broken off by that point and foot travel is almost non-existant. As with Coues, quality optics are a must in my opinion to find the little salt and pepper peccary of the desert! Good Luck and it's a great hunt, one that you will probably enjoy more than you thought! AzP&Y Doug
Aunt Jemima Report post Posted February 12, 2007 Thanks for that. Got the pm. I am getting addicted to hunting these animals. We've got them here in NM but I haven't drawn in 3 years. Ever since NM went to the online app process I haven't been able to get a tag. Once people were able to apply with a credit card this hunt started really filling up. It sucks, 'cause what I hear all the time is "well, I put in for it and drew the tag but thats too far to go for a little pig. I don't know why they didn't think of that before they applied. Anyways, I drew one for AZ a couple years ago and went down to 29 and I think spent some time in 30 or 31. Never shot one but had a good time. Would like to find a nice spot to be able to hit when I dont draw the January deer tag I want. Thanks.
