kidso Report post Posted August 23, 2014 Very tough to wait for your quarry to get within your own defined shooting limits. Great mental job controlling your boundaries instead of launching some "hail mary" shots at the beast!!! As a caller, I never imagined ever shooting at anything beyond 100 yards, and even at the range, I never practiced any shots beyond 100 yards. However, I once called in a lion while bear hunting and it hung up at exactly 250 yards and refused to come any closer. My buddy shot at it while I spotted through my binoculars. His first shot was about two feet short. The lion jumped up looking around. I told him to aim higher. He shot again and was inches low. The lion now started to jog away. I let out a squeal that stopped him in his tracks. In a split second's time, I threw my own rifle up and put the cross hairs about a foot above the lions back and pulled the trigger. The lion fell dead! It was pure luck, though, an instant experiment in compensating for bullet drop. Kudos to you for sticking to your comfort zone! Next time, tag one!! DesertBull Report post Posted August 23, 2014 I have to honest, I thought about it, but did not have a comfortable enough set up to take the shot.
