AZ Sportsmen for Wildlife hosting forum

Recommended Posts

Arizona Sportsmen for Wildlife will be hosting a forum on Monday, February

12 at the Cabela's Store in Glendale from 7pm -9pm to meet candidates who have applied for consideration to serve on the Arizona Game & Fish Commission. As of last Friday we learned that there are six candidates who have filed with the Governor's Office of Boards and Commission to fill the seat being vacated by Joe Melton.

We have extended an invitation to all of the candidates and asked them to attend our forum. To date we have received feedback from three of the six that have indicated they will make every effort to attend. The format for the forum will be consistent with the one held last year.

This is the opportunity for sportsmen and representatives from sportsmen organizations to hear directly from the candidate and ask questions on issues they feel are of importance. We hope you will plan to attend.

Since we are so late receiving the names of candidates, we apologize for the short notice period. We are, however, hopeful that most or all of the candidates will attend.

Thank you for all that you do to conserve Arizona's wildlife and its habitat.

I know Don Martin is seeking support for his bid to become a commissioner. I have pasted in an email he sent out asking for support (in the attachments to this post you can see his resume and letter of support from Blaine Bickford from August when he was nominated as Volunteer of the year which describes his dedication to sportsmen). If you like his qualifications, then please email a letter of support to the governor's office (see the contact email listed in email below). Deadline to do it is Feb 13, so time is short. I believe you can send letters of support for more than one candidate if you want.

Don's phone number is in his resume and I am sure he would love to talk to sportsmen; if you have any questions for him, give him a call. He has done a tremendous amount of work on behalf of sportsmen for many years.

Subject: Support for Arizona Game & Fish Commission appointment

Ladies & Gentlemen:

I am writing to you today seeking your support for my bid to be appointed to the Arizona Game & Fish Commission, replacing Mr. Joe Melton from Yuma whose term has expired.

I know that some conservation groups have already submitted letters to the governor's office via Ms. Dora Vasquez dvasquez@az.gov in support of one or more candidates, but I am asking for your individual and personal support.

I am attaching a copy of my resume and a letter that Mr. Blaine Bickford sent to the AZ G&F Dept. last year outlining my volunteer efforts for the citizens of Arizona for your review.

If you choose to do so, you can still write a letter to the governor via Ms. Vasquez's office. It is important that this occurs right away as next Tuesday (13th) is the deadline for the governor's office to receive them. If you know of friends who could write a letter, please forward my information on to them.

One last thing I'd like to bring to your attention. Despite the fact that Mohave County has over 1,000 miles of Colorado River shoreline, and is home to some of the state's desert bighorn sheep and mule deer herds, there has not been a resident of Mohave County on the Commission for over 35 years! The Commission make up should include people from all parts of Arizona to ensure that there is adequate representation of all the citizens of the state.

If you have any questions about my candidacy, please do not hesitate to call.

Sincerely,

Don Martin

Just a heads-up the meeting scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.

Subject: Commission Candidates Meeting Canceled

Importance: High

Suzanne asked me to get this to you as soon as possible.

Please let everyone know that tonight's meeting has been canceled.

With such short notice from the Governor's office, it has been impossible to get the candidates for the Game & Fish Commission seat to a meeting before the Governor's comment period closes this Thursday, February 15th.

Suzanne will follow up with more information soon.

Pete
