Adicted Report post Posted August 20, 2014 headed up to 17a with the kids for archery deer, and bear and saw that archery squirrel is opening also. Never done before and have a few questions if you can help on? Can kids under the age of 10 hunt these? Do you turn the pounds down on the bow and what kind off arrow setup do you use such as blunts, tips, etc? Would love to have some squirrel for dinner that the kids shot.
GJMauro12 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 Squirrel is still small game and I believe kids under 10 can hunt under a licensed guardian. Don't think the method of take should change anything. Not sure on the other questions
bonecollector777 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 I would think you would have to use those flu flu arrows or whatever they are called so they slow down fast. If you missed the tree completely your arrow is gonna be in the next county haha. I have never tried it but it does sound fun! And difficult.
thegunsmith2506 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 We have shot several over the last few years. A few tricks we have learned: Sight your pin in for a known distance, I like 20 yards. Range the base of the tree and move back until you are exactly 20yds away. Once you draw your bow, lean back at the waist so that your form stays the same. Don't just raise your arm. It works best if they are stopped on the trunk or sitting upright on a branch. If they are laying on a branch it can be really hard to hit them. I bought some cheap blunts on Ebay that worked pretty good. I don't change anything else in my setup. Good Luck!
