bonecollector777 Report post Posted August 14, 2014 That could be someone trying to trick others into believing it's a game and fish cam so they won't mess with it. That type of cam definitely isn't one with wireless capability. BUT if it is a game and fish cam they do what they want. Every law they have written for us is followed with something about the law doesn't apply to them if they are on duty or doing official work. Can't remember exact wording but basically says we do what we want even if it's illegal for normal hunters because noone can tell us otherwise. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I read something on a forum a couple of years ago about putting a sign like that on a cam to keep people from messing with it. Pretty lame security if it's held on with bungees. It's not like they are asking people to stay out of the area, but just a request not to vandalize the camera. If he has a question about g&f possibly breaking the law using salt pellets is he not allowed to ask if they are or not? I think that's where he was going with this post. cmc Report post Posted August 14, 2014 Over the years conservation groups that have funded studies and research that involve the G&F placing trail cameras to gather data so it's not out of the question to see them scattered across the state. Also they will place them at both watch catchments needing redevelopment as well recently installed or redeveloped water catchments to monitor it's usage by wildlife. Data from both uses of trail cameras, as well others I have not mentioned, is utilized in the planning, development and approval of future water projects. Another point of interest is they do us some good in proving to the preservationist groups (anti human involvement minded) that such activities are needed in the course of wildlife management to promote and sustain healthy herds in our state. Sitting on a local HPC committee and working on various projects I've seen the value of having the data gathered from cameras and I see the need in the department using them. What they may place at the camera site could depend on what the research or activity dictates. So say they are working on a multi year research project to see if supplementing a specific type of mineral to the wildlife population in a specific targeted area has positive affects to that herd. Thus I could see they are putting out a substance not legal to be used by sportsmen in the act of hunting, but the intent of sportsman and the department are not one in the same so we shouldn't look at it the same. my $.02 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The tag has to have our G&F trapping number and can include our name or address if we want. Many trappers put thier trapping number on their tag and the following AZG&F DO NOT TAMPER 12345 S. UNIVERSITY MESA AZ 480-435-8732 I don't know the exact address or phone number but regardless it serves 2 purposes. #1 it is a deterent to would-be vandals or thieves. #2 IF my trap happens to catch someone's dog I sure don't want the dog owner coming to my home ticked I caught thier dog they were allowing to free roam without a leash. I've caught many domestic dogs in my cages. Let them carry the trap to an AZG&F office and complain. I'll get the trap back in the end and if I'm lucky they'll be cited to tampering with a legal set trap. I have had several of my traps by G&F agents checked and never have had a problem with the tag. Another instance- a fellow trapper took it a step further and had a plastic sheet of foam type board made to cover the top of his trap 12" x 42". On it he had printed the AZG&F logo and the ordinance pertaining to not tampering with a legally set trap in bold print. AZG&F contacted him and told him to remove the plastic piece as it was intentionally misleading an individual to believe the trap was the property of AZG&F. He was not cited. I've read and respect your content here on CWT but I'm interested in how that makes you "lucky" instead of just sounding selfish? Are dogs not allowed off-leash on the public land you're trapping on? I wouldn't want to mess with someone's trap/cage but I also wouldn't let my dog just sit there trapped either. Just open the cage door and let it go. No big deal there.
