trphyhntr Report post Posted March 4, 2015 Have you guys seen that there are outfitters who insist on saying that working out doesn't help you hunt better? I got stop going on social media. How can outfitter who has undoubtedly guided someone who is out of shape and seen how that hinders performance can say that.
Edge Report post Posted March 4, 2015 Yeah Trophyhunter, on another website they were arguing that you need not get in shape if you are in a militia. I can just picture the guys that agreed with that.
elkhunter Report post Posted March 4, 2015 Great forum you guys have going. I'm not a large guy but at 6 ft tall and always between 170-190 lbs I had a good challenge this past year and it was to cut fat loss, after 12 weeks I saw a significant change but was able to maintain my weight at 175 and increase my bench, squat and push-up numbers, I do have pictures but not sure if shirtless pictures are acceptable on this website! My main goal was to cut fat content to make it easier to hike the hills and mostly to enjoy my fall/winter hunting being more fit than I have in the past, I enjoyed reading all the posts, some of you are makin great progress and it sure ain't easy!

ctafoya Report post Posted March 5, 2015 Well I jumped back up to 227. Went from 257 down to 203 and now back up. Been eating like $h!t and drinking a few too many. Time to get it going again. My new problem is I will soon be starting a new job that will take me around the country, and sometimes out of the country. Its gonna be hard to eat healthy on the road and find hotels with fitness centers. I'll have to find new ways to get a workout in without any equipment. Any ideas? SWDesertRat Report post Posted March 5, 2015 Well I jumped back up to 227. Any ideas?Depends how bad you want it.Losing 50lbs is huge, awesome job! The discipline will be the toughest. Look into buying a couple different excercise bands, one a medium to heavy depending on how tight it is and one medium to light. You will be limited on all the excercises you can do, but arms, chest, legs and back are all possible in your hotel room with the bands. You can also do alot of excercises with your own body weight. Cardio will be the hard part but even walking for 40-60 minutes will help you out. Walk fast, break a sweat. Ask for the top floor in the hotel and take the stairs. Become a picky eater, make the conscious choice of foods that wont be gut bombs and cause you to rather sit on the couch rather than excercise in your room. Start thinking about portion control too; worse part about traveling is most of the food at restaurants comes on big plates. I dislike wasting food but I also dislike being uncomfortably full. So either pick the smaller sized meals, lots of places now have 'the lighter side' fares or ask for a box with your meal and as soon as your meal arrives cut it in half and put half in the box to go. Reward yourself, have a food cheat day. Youll find that youll look forward to it but as time goes on you might not hit it as hard as you did at first cuz it sucks that much more the next day getting back into the routine with all that stuff in your gut. Keep a log of your excercises, make it fun. Track what states or cities youve worked out in. Also, have a buddy that helps keep you motivated and focused. You need to want it. You can do it, stay focused, and dont beat yourself up when you miss a day. Hardest part is the decision to start, once you make it a routine and habit, itll be easier to keep.

Its gonna be hard to eat healthy on the road and find hotels with fitness centers. I'll have to find new ways to get a workout in without any equipment. Any ideas? It's always tough to eat healthy while on the road. I find it helps to pack some of my own food. Nuts, apples, oranges, granola bars will travel well and keep you filled up with good nutrients. Most hotels now seem to have workout rooms, so you will likely be OK there. And it seems most places have a refridgerator and microwave so you can bring your own food and make meals you like. That will generally save you money compared to eating out and save you a lot of extra calories. Sometimes those in the room fridges are small, so you might want to bring a cooler with you so you can have more food with you that will help you meet your goals. You can also use trip advisor or yelp or google to search ahead of time for restaurants that serve healthier options. You can also google something like "eating healthy while traveling" and find advice. here is one page with some tips: http://www.builtlean.com/2012/02/14/eat-healthy-while-traveling/
Havasuhunter Report post Posted March 8, 2015 I've been way too lazy lately. Stressed out from job change, working nights and traveling. Lots of good excuses, but I've got to get back to it. I was down to 185, now back up over 200lbs. Time to clean up the diet again.
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted March 8, 2015 Sometime I play a little mental game and it helps with the food crap, Guys at work buy doenuts all the time and I have not had one in several years so its fun in situations like that to refuse certain foods and then its like an instant conversation starter. Most people who know me know I eat very well, not only great gourmet food but healthy as well and they are not surprised but everyday people always make comments so its like a game to see what new comments i can get from not eating some items or drinking other items. I put in my mind I will never do certain thing or eat certain things and it becomes easy to refuse. Believe me I am the minority of the folks around me and its easy to get conversation about not eating fast food for 4 years or not eating dohnuts for more than 5. One of my favorite is pizza on the company, I have not taken food from the company functions in 8 years and when the overeated dudes show up at my desk at thanksgiving and find me eating a salad and posting on coues they get it going pretty good. LOL Keep that in mind, its not easy but I have not had fast food other than subway in many many years.
