kidso Report post Posted August 13, 2014 Units like 23 are quite interesting with their increased hunting pressures and low sow quotas. These early closings, typically with sows and younger bears being harvested, actually buy time for bigger bears, that might be a bit smarter than the smaller ones, to grow even larger. There are plenty of BIG bears in 23, especially where one has to pack in for a couple of hours off a forest service access road, where houndsmen and e-calling symphonies won't be part of the picture. It will open again!
JLW Report post Posted August 13, 2014 Anyone hear of any big bears shot, as in over 350. Seems like a all the pics I've seen from 23 this year are under 250 pounds? Just curious. i had a lot of bears on my cams this year, but all were under 250 it seemed. last year there were lots of nice bears on the cams. We shot one of them that went well over 400 pounds. Would like to see a pic of a gagger from 23 from this year though.coughcoughbullshitcoughcoughlets see a pic the 400lber James Sorry I don't post pics. I'm totally fine with you not believing me. Shot one in New Mexico with my bow that was def over 400 and had a low 21s skull. Good luck on your adventures this year in the field. just razzin you.............. have2bhuntn Report post Posted August 17, 2014 I never thought 23 was a secret for bear. I grew up in 23 south and we have always had to have our own rock on opening weekend. Have not got to hunt there in a few years though.
