Joe Kauffman Report post Posted August 13, 2014 out2hunt, great buck! That's what my son has high hopes for this year. He drew the juniors muzzy late December 16A tag. Started scouting already but I'm not sure how much they will move before then.

Started scouting already but I'm not sure how much they will move before then. Make sure you get him the companion javelina tag. My little sister in law had that junior muzzy tag a few years ago. When the only buck we saw during the hunt gave us the slip, we were able to keep her interest by shifting to the pigs. Kinda cool to be hunting the only exclusively "muzzleloader" javelina tag in the state, and in December too.

Great idea, a deer or a Javi should make a JR hunter pretty happy, especially with the Muzzleloader. Pretty decent number of Javelina in the zone too. Sneaker Report post Posted August 13, 2014 It really seems like there should be higher deer concentrations than there are, and at the same time I keep finding stuff like this on my hikes and cameras:
Havasuhunter Report post Posted August 13, 2014 Lion central for sure. Very low deer density from what I've seen, but still some deer in there,
Joe Kauffman Report post Posted August 13, 2014 Isn't 16A a daylong lion hunting unit?
out2hunt Report post Posted August 20, 2014 Your son will be fine, I am positive you will tag out with a few long days of glassing different mountain ranges. My son and I had a blast in there together, as I am sure you will as well. Many Blessings on a FUN hunt!

The road runs up to an abandoned mine, and can be reached by traversing the southwest side of the mountain range.
