What a way to end 2006

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd share a picture of the buck I killed dec. 30th with my bow. I glassed this buck from about 600 yards first thing in the morning in a spot that I had put a stalk on a non typical buck the weekend before. I watched him for about an hour before starting a stalk. He was busy keeping 2 other bucks away from his 2 does. One of the other bucks was the non typical from last weekend. Once this buck bedded down I started a stalk that would be within his sight most of the way. I spent 4 and a half hours on my hands and knees crawling across a cactus flat to get within range of him. I had to get past the other two bucks and one of the does to get a shot. Finally at about 63 yards I could get no closer. When I sat up to draw the buck stood up to look at what was moving. I held on his chest ,( I still shoot bare bow, so no pins to look at) and released, The buck jumped at the shot and I hit him in the spine in front of his hip. He went down almost immediately but I knew he might not stay down so I ran up to him and let the air out of him for good. To say I was excited would be an understatement. The buck was bigger than I had thought, I had guessed him about 105 inches. After packing him out 3 miles and returning home I had him green scored by an official measurer here in Payson. He added up 117 3/8 gross and 114 7/8 net. Both bases are 5 1/8 inches and inside spread is 17 3/8. I'm excited to see what he officially scores after the drying period. I've been fortunate to have taken several other Whitetails with a rifle, including 3 that are over 100 inches, but this is my first with a bow, also my best ever. Wish I had better pictures but I left the camera home that day because of the long hike in, trying to cut some weight.post-1822-1170296014_thumb.jpg

That is a brute. Love the tall eyeguards and the mass. also 4 and half hours crawling through a cactus flat makes that a well earned trophy.

Antlerfinder,

Congrats on a great stalk! I'm sure you said a few prayers while you were crawling on your hands and knees. Looks like they were answered. And Welcome to CWT.com
