12a West October junior hunt

Recommended Posts

From Jacob's Lake you can take 67 south any of the big parks will have deer in them early and late. The burn on the way down is great. The burn to the north on 89 is also a very good spot.If you want to go farther in take the 22 rd from 67 to the 270 south it will take to the points rds.Deer will be everywhere on the first hunt. All of the points will have water and deer plus on Fire point you just might see a buff!!!

This is really good advice and by parks he is referring to meadows. Make sure you are shooting at a doe as there are also elk in there too and get a mountain lion tag.

Good Luck and enjoy the hunt and don't stress over it too much as I am pretty sure this is close to 100% Success Rate.

Is it really a wise choice to buy a lion tag? Yep that's what I thought he meant it's all good! Thanks for your advice

I think that every hunter on any given hunt should always have a lion tag.

+1 What muley224 said...I buy a lion tag every year along with my OTC archery deer tag. Have yet to see one, but I'll have a tag when I do! :D

It also can get pretty darn cold there at night and you can expect to see frost on the ground in the morning. Took both my kids on that hunt when they were 10 & 11 I almost had to take my 11yo back to camp in the morning because her feet were cold and she had on hiking shoes.

Fortunately she toughed it out and put a great spine shot on a doe at 200 yards with my 22-250.

Yep my friend had it last year and there was 6-8 inches of snow on the ground! Well congrats to your daughter and we will be prepared for the cold weather!

Many years ago I was scouting for deer in unit 23, while glassing a long canyon close to its head I saw a lot of dust fly directly across from me, but its details were hidden by forage moments later a large mature lion appeared with a coyote in its mouth, I watched the lion slowly pick his way down the canyon to the bottom where he disappeared into a large juniper for bread fest, this took a total of 45 min. I always carry my rifle when scouting but this time for some reason I left it at home and only carried my pistol, and I had a lion tag. ALWAYS CARRY YOUR RIFLE .
