muledeerarea33? Report post Posted July 30, 2014 I'm sure it's out of my budget but I'm curious. What's it cost to have a chopper take you up and scout? Not necessarily for critters but more for water, locations for spike camps, etc?

Saguaro Report post Posted July 30, 2014 Planes will be much cheaper. Good luck and try to get a high wing Cessna. If your real lucky, you might find someone with a STOL kit and you can cruise at 40 mph.
camoremi Report post Posted July 30, 2014 I've heard of people using those quadcopter drones to scout. They actually made them illegal in a few states I think
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted July 30, 2014 I was able to go up recently in a single eng plane and we were up for about 2 hours and just fuel was 95 bucks on a 125 horse motor. Figure 65 bucks an hour for fuel plus pilot so maybe 150 an hour for plane if you can find someone. Its tuff to mark stuff and see where the heck your at in a plane for sure so I say Google earth and boots.

muledeerarea33? Report post Posted July 30, 2014 Wow!!! Good thing I'm drinkin whiskey and not beer!!! Didn't realize I'd get such a quick response. So no one had used a chopper? I know "boots on the ground" is cheaper. Well... Let the can of worms continue to spill!!! I'll check back after I cook dinner, should be Interisting!
Havasuhunter Report post Posted July 30, 2014 I know guys that have used a helicopter and small fixed wings for scouting. Not sure how I feel about it, but if it's legal and you have the cash might be interesting. Rotary is much more expensive than fixed wing. Find some one with a small high wing that can fly nice and slow. I'm definitely against the use of aircraft during the season. More than once I've had some a-hole come buzzing over us and a herd several times while we were putting on a stalk. Not sure if they were antis, just curious, pot growers, or other hunters, but it sucked.

bonecollector777 Report post Posted July 30, 2014 $1200 an hour?! Holy smokes. . If you're gonna go up I'm pretty sure you'll have to go before the archery deer hunts start because it's illegal after the first big game season starts. If I read the regs correctly.
