MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted July 29, 2014 I am not understanding the rule for tag transfer. I read the regs and Since my daughter fits the bill and did not draw I am thinking of donating my tag to her. It says that either myself, grandparent or guardian has to be within 50 feet of her during the hunt??? What the heck is that??? Can I giver her the tag or not I am not understanding the reasoning there? Of course I wouldnt miss her first deer tag for anything but just thought that was a strange deal. What if I was unable to go and thats why I was transferring?

What if I was unable to go and thats why I was transferring? I have donated two tags and was there. This question has been asked a lot. I have asked g+f a few times and got different answers. I would just make sure you dont let an older teen go their own direction away from an adult.

She was not on the hunt, and we were checked by g+f with no issues.
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted July 29, 2014 Ya funny rule. I can only guess they want you to mentor and spend family time or something or maybe way back it stopped some kind of abuse of transfer. If I decide to do it I will be there so no issue on my end. By the way is there a deadline to transfer or do I have some time? Mainly I just want to be sure she deserves it still at that time before I do it. If she keeps her nose clean its hers. Lol i am pulling for her but 16 and just got her first truck so you never know.

I believe it just needs to be prior to opening day at a department office. Make sure you have your licenses and hunter safety card for the minor. Its pretty simple. Str8Shot Report post Posted July 29, 2014 Pretty straight forward ... Parent or Grandparent can transfer tag to son/daughter, or grandson/daughter as long as they meet the age and that one of three are accompany and hunting with them ... Parent , Grandparent, Legal Guardian... So Uncle Joe can not be the one with them unless he is a Legal Gaurdian
Mthomas Report post Posted July 30, 2014 I've donated some of my tags to my kids in the past. Even though I was going to be right beside them I still transferred the tag into his name. I take the tag to the G&F office and they'll print you a new one right on the spot. If you do it that way they can be accompanied by any adult.
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted July 30, 2014 Something I was just thinking was I have my Rifle tag and want to transfer it to my daughter but I am going Archery so If I tag a deer can I still transfer the Rifle tag or do I have to do that first and will it still be valid if I tag something in August? PRDATR Report post Posted July 30, 2014 Something I was just thinking was I have my Rifle tag and want to transfer it to my daughter but I am going Archery so If I tag a deer can I still transfer the Rifle tag or do I have to do that first and will it still be valid if I tag something in August? My gut feeling says no because once you meet your yearly quota of one deer the rifle tag becomes null and void. To me that's kinda like double dipping. MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted July 30, 2014 Thats what I was thinking, I guess I will have to transfer it now and ask when I am down there

All tags must be transferred in office with fee prior to hunt and put in the kids name... and according to every person I have asked A Parent, Grand Parent or legal guardian must be within 50 yards in field when wildlife is taken by minor child... I was also told that since the minor child has to have his or her hunting license and tag is transferred to his or her name that the harvesting of game effects the minor child's quota ... and does allow Parent or Grand Parent to still Hunt and Harvest with OTC archery. jim Report post Posted July 30, 2014 You can transfer it. It's not double dipping. You can take 1 deer a year and so can she.
SunDevil Report post Posted July 30, 2014 make sure you wait until the week before the hunt to transfer it just in case something happens to your kid (broken bone, etc) because once it is transferred it can not be reversed.
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted July 30, 2014 Good deal. Going to do that. Archery here I come. Its not like the odds of tagging archery are in my favor anyway. Lol I always tell my wife's non hunting girlfriends not to worry the deer aren't in much danger when I have my bow. Lol thanks guys I will confirm at gf office and transfer tag latrr
mattys281 Report post Posted July 31, 2014 I transferred my deer tag to my daughter last year and they just took my tag and issued her one. Nothing marked or mentioned about any key nd of restrictions. It was the same tag as if she'd drawn it herself.
