Havasuhunter Report post Posted July 29, 2014 I have never shot a 270 WSM, but several 300 WSMs and 300 WMs. I've never found any 300 mag hard to shoot or intimidating. Can't imagine the 270WSM doesn't recoil less with the lighter bullets? I am currently looking for a new all weather rifle and am debating between a good old 270 win or a 270 WSM. Not worried about recoil, I just want a flat, easy to reload cartridge and I like bullets in the 270-7mm range for all around big game hunting. Obviously some of my buddies feel their 300 mags are intimidating because I always seem to have to sight them in for them off the bench! Hope you find a good one. Seems like a 270 WSM would be hard to beat as an all around choice. Heard most love the 140 accubonds too. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
hoghntr Report post Posted July 29, 2014 Animals killed with my 270 wsm 100 2/8 couse buck. 223 yards 14 year old. 130 pounds Lil coues at 150 yards my 10 year old son 100 pounds Cow elk at 166 yards my middle son 110 pounds Md 150 yards. Me ( fat butt) Md-at 460 yards my god son 200 pounds No one complained about recoil at all. My favorite az cal!!! . Yes yes we know your kids are tougher than average but do they shoot the 270 wsm over and over at range or just once at animal? when you hunt are they set up on 2 tripods as I see most 10yr olds now when shooting large calibers at 200 to 600 yards? I would say these would be recoil reducing factors. I personally would never EVER hand my 10 yr old a 270 wsm or a 300wm in fear of separated shoulder or breaking clavicle but thats just my personal common sense factored in. now as for adults if they really wanna have a uncomfortable day at range or just like to say they shoot a big gun then this is another dandy to put behind seat of their big lifted truck. gr8 bullet with gr8 ballistics but my experience with it says not worth it. fun how this guys wtb tread turned into caliber debate. whitey you saying how easy they were to shoot is what convinced me to try 1 and that was a big fail. now to be fare it was in a boyds stock with a crappy boyds recoil pad. the end Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The choice is always theirs to make in my household. 223, 243. 270 wsm,300 wsm. Etc. they decide the right gun that they feel comfortable with at the range. gbocardo Report post Posted July 30, 2014 I have the Tikka T3 Light 270 WSM (Lefty Also) and shoot 150 grain. I love it. My wife shot her mule deer with it last year at 400 yards it only walked another 10 yards before dropping. No complaints on recoil. I just put a new scope on it today and sited it in. Put several rounds down range. Shoulder feels great. Recoil not an issue. It all comes down to the shooter but I would recommend the 270 if anyone asked. Furthermore, Lionhunter said it best.
