Hey, I'm all-american... the bigger the better. If I could only hunt one, it would have to be the mulie. On a side note, if you could have only one tag would you take a dec. coues tag or a early bull tag?

The question is "would you rather". For me it's simple.... 190" mule deer.

But are we talking desert or rocky?? 190" desert buck is ginormous. 190" rocky is still really, really, big. But my goal before I'm done hunting is to take a really big rocky buck so I'll take that right now.

Not to hijack the thread, but let me throw this out there. This might shine a different light on those who think it's "easier" to find a 120" Coues deer compared to a 190" muley:

If you could take your pick of any DRAW permits offered in AZ for both species, which would be the easiest to find, 190" or 120"??

I don't think there is any doubt that it is easier (but still not easy) to find a 190" MD in AZ in the 13's or the 12's and much of Colorado / Utah / Wyoming high country. 120" Coues is rare even in MX.

I think a more honest comparison would be a 190" MD to a 110" Coues.

This is kinda the reason I asked this question. I have killed a few nice coues deer like 2 around 65" 80" and even a 94" . The biggest mulie deer I have killed was a 2x3 that looks like a California black tail rack. When I see a nice square 4x4 mule deer I think of the old west. But when I see a nice coues deer it is like seeing royalty. I would like to get a nice square mule deer one day and as far as the dec wt tag vs bull elk I vote for dec wt

I'd take the 190" muley over the 120" coues. JMO. But I've taken a lot more coues than I have muleys. As for table fare, the way I process meat, I don't find coues that much better than mule deer. I'd prefer a cow elk over both, but super lean, well cared for meat from any deer species is awesome. I just love those big wide muleys from a trophy aspect.

TJ there is more meat on a 40 lb carp than on a 7 lb trout but I don't think many folks would be making that trade!

Coues > Donkey Deer

Just looking at it objectively; 190" is the B&C min. for mule deer and 120" is well in excess of the 110" minimum for the gray ghost!

Did you refer to coues as a trout?

Sort of. It was intended more as an analogy than literally but either way . . .

Agree 100%. I think a lot of Coues hunters could probably ease up on the "easy" talk when it comes to a giant Coues bucks like 120"+

I had to go with 120 Coues. People Shoot 170 to 190 inch mule deer from the rd all the time. Just hang out at the peaks theres a reason theres 7,000 hunters on one rd! I have never even seen a coues buck over 90 inches within a half mile of a rd.
