Snake ID

Recommended Posts

I came across this fella while glassing today. He was eating tadpoles in a small basin of watering the rocks. He was very aggressive and struck the end of my tripod leg several times. About a foot long and as big around as a thumb. David

Gotta laugh, we kill about 3 of these a week. I'm usually very compassionate about snakes but we've got a koi pond with some regular goldfish. We've lost some very nice fish to these idiot garter snakes who bite anything they can latch onto but can't swallow.

Looks like a checkers garter snake. Used to catch similar ones in tortilla n fish creek in summer monsoons.

Checkered dam auto spell. Had one in high school n it would eat 15-20 goldfish live in one meal.
