azhuntnut Report post Posted July 27, 2014 I came across this fella while glassing today. He was eating tadpoles in a small basin of watering the rocks. He was very aggressive and struck the end of my tripod leg several times. About a foot long and as big around as a thumb. David

Coach Report post Posted July 27, 2014 Gotta laugh, we kill about 3 of these a week. I'm usually very compassionate about snakes but we've got a koi pond with some regular goldfish. We've lost some very nice fish to these idiot garter snakes who bite anything they can latch onto but can't swallow.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted July 27, 2014 Yes, it's a garter snake. Not sure exactly which species, but all garter snakes are non-venomous. Black-necked is the most common. Kind of depends where you were in the state. here is a great website for snake and amphibian info: http://www.reptilesofaz.org/snakes.html
