Barnes 145 grn LRX for 280 Ackley Improved

Recommended Posts

Does anyone out there reload for the 280 Ack. and use the 145 grn LRX bullet? It seems like it should be a real good bullet. I have a 26" number 2 barrel if that makes a difference. I have plenty of 4831 and IMR 4350, but I'm open to other powders. Just looking for suggestions and a little advise on where to do some research. If not the 145 grn, what are your best loads for the 140 or 150 grn?

Thanks for the help.

129 Grains on Elk? Was that Cow or Bull? I'd think that would be a little light, but Barnes does make a heck of a bullet!!!

One cow and one bull. 200 yards and 350 yards, respectfully. Both shots were high shoulder. Pushed through bone on both sides and exited and neither took another step. They're leaving the muzzle at 3350 fps, so they had a lot of energy to begin with. That being said, elk aren't made of steel.
