sjvcon Report post Posted July 24, 2014 So I was really sure I wanted to hunt the Bear Wallow Burn this year. Felt like just enough time had passed to do well in there. GOT DRAWN. Too bad for me that I have to have a L5/S1 Spinal Fusion ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess my tag will go to my youngest boy in hopes he can get another one this year. I should be just well enough to be camp cook while my Dad and my buddy take the boys out to hunt.

sjvcon Report post Posted July 25, 2014 Thanks Heat. I appreciate it. Old injury Snap. Herniated a disc at 24 lifting a Coke Machine on a Construction Project. I guess 23 years is too long for it to hold up under constant activity and stress. In the pictures, the healthy discs look like Oreo's stuffed with Marshmallows ... the bad one looks like just one of the cookie pieces. Doc said this is really the only long term solution that is viable. Said he could just go in and clean it up, but it would likely not last, so I figured to get it done up right before the politicians screw up our Health Care System even more. You and I are 2 peas in a pod when it comes to spines. Got a couple bad disks also. I wonder how long I can hold out.?
sjvcon Report post Posted July 25, 2014 Everyone is different. He said 23 years was pretty long...but you know us overachieving Conservatives!!!

shanehamblin Report post Posted July 26, 2014 Being a conservative is the whole problem I think. Liberals were all made spineless.
Pine Donkey Report post Posted July 26, 2014 It's not just that the liberals are spineless, it's that we hurt our backs because we are always carrying them! Sjvcon, good luck with the surgery. I almost had surgery on my L5S1 after 3 weeks laying on the floor. Did the MRI and scheduled the surgery after the doctor told me it was my only option to long term relief. There was a two week wait so he sent me for an epidural injection to provide some temporary relief. The injection worked so well I cancelled the surgery...that was 17 years ago. I did have a couple follow up injections but haven't had one in 12 years. As you said everyone is different. My cousin did the injections and had no relief at all. Point is, do what you need to ensure you have a functional back. Life is too short to spend in constant pain. Good luck; hope your boy kills a toad!
sjvcon Report post Posted July 26, 2014 I am supposed to have the injection this week. We will see what that does. Not sure it can help with the disc height issue though. THAT THING IS SMASHED!!! I will post hunt picks for sure. Between my buddy Bryan and my dad helping out, I hope the boys have some success.
khmer6 Report post Posted August 2, 2014 Have similar l5/s1 issue.I've had Faucet injections. Rf laser burning the nerves off. Epidural. All brought only short term relief. But for some people it can last for years. I am one of the unluckies. Good luck on everything and hope your boy tags out
sjvcon Report post Posted August 2, 2014 I had the injections today. Hurt worse than anything I have ever felt in my life. Is giving me some back pain relief for sure, but the structural issues are still there. I am pretty sure I am having the fusion while I am still in otherwise good health and have the insurance to cover it. Call me a cynic, but I am unsure of the future state of things in our medical system. I also don't like some of the longterm effects of multiple steroid injections.
