GJMauro12 Report post Posted July 24, 2014 OTC tags are good for any unit that is open at any given time throughout a calendar year so you do not have to choose a unit.
kingbeer Report post Posted July 24, 2014 oh man!! that is awsome. now i just have to find one for deer and one for bear!!! and i will be golden! thank you for this information
GJMauro12 Report post Posted July 24, 2014 If you have a bow already and plan to hunt the archery deer hunt you can also pick up an archery turkey tag OTC. It will be the same dates as the August/September deer hunt son you'll have two archery tags in your pocket at the same time. Not worth it if you plan to hunt the desert units during that time though.
kingbeer Report post Posted July 24, 2014 i hear you on that one! now if you are picking your tag for the OTC and want rifle you just tell them and then same for archery correct? on the draw what you pick it would say (archery only) or general for rilfe correct? or should i say that General Nonpermit Tag Required would always mean rifle and it if it archery then it will state this correct? GJMauro12 Report post Posted July 24, 2014 I think you are mixing up some of the different options available right now. This link will show you what was left over from the original draw that they just posted the results for. You will have to mail in a written application with a check or money order I believe this Friday and they will have the drawing on Monday. You would need an application for deer and turkey if you choose to do both and i believe in a separate envelope. These tags are considered "left overs" not "over the counter" and they will specify which method of take you may use. After this draw is complete, if there are any tags still left over they will be sold as a first come, first serve basis at the game and fish office but they are still not considered OTC tags. http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/documents/leftovers-fall.pdf Any tags that are available through walmart only need to be purchased once a year if you decide and will be good for any method of take according to the regs. Yes deer and turkey OTC tags from walmart are always archery but the other OTC tags you can buy at walmart would specify your method of take in the regs. Bear is your biggest one. There is an archery OTC season and a rifle OTC season for bear. You only need to buy the OTC bear tag once and use the correct method of take in the regs for the season you wish to hunt. Or hunt all the OTC seasons and just follow the method of take for the time you're going. Hopefully this clears things up somewhat. I'm starting to confuse myself now. kingbeer Report post Posted July 24, 2014 im sorry i am a newbie, but that makes sense. i just want to be able to go and get a deer and a bear once a yr. would prefer the bear with rifle and deer with a bow. but knowing that i will be able to go OTC for both and i just have to look at the take method then i will go that route. and it is nice that you can get one OTC and go rifle and archery but of course only get to tag out on one or the other! GJMauro12 Report post Posted July 24, 2014 No problem! Sounds like you're getting it. I would definitely try for the left over rifle tags first because the OTC tags aren't as easy as it sounds. Not saying a rifle tag is either but if you are new to Arizona all together then it will most likely take you some time to learn an area well enough to take an OTC deer and bear regularly. I buy that bear tag every year along with the other OTC tags and have yet to take a bear and I'm a native. It all depends on how much time you have to put into it though. The OTC tags do give you an extra incentive to be out there learning new areas and having a good time tho
